Cummaquid Golf Club was founded in 1985. It is considered to be the oldest club on Cape Cod. It means a sandy neck or long point.

Sean, is Michigan the UofM course?

Si, the course in town (often called The Blue), not Radrick Farms, the other Michigan university course out on Geddes Road east of town.

I really like Brampton, even if the AA Guide refuses to concede that it exists.  A pretty extreme bit of land for a course, though!
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

How about five from Cali:

1. Yoche De He-near Sacramento, one of the best settings in NoCal not near the ocean with no houses or roads within view.
2. Lake Chabot-Oakland, elevated tee lovers dream
3. Sandpiper-Santa Barbara, somewhere between Torrey Pines and Pebble.
4. Marshallia Ranch-Vandenberg AFB, Lompoc Ca-ice plant, eucs and wind with great greens.
5. Santa Anita Muni-quirky classic fun.
I love golf, the fightin irish, and beautiful women depending on the season and availability.

Neither are Leo J Martin.... ;)

Just like there is only one Pine Valley, there is only one Leo J.   ;)

As a 12-year-old, at least twice a week, I would badger the pro shop guy into letting me play the back instead of the front when I only had time for nine holes after school (or on occasion just sneaking on).  I'd usually play 12 as a short par 4 by hitting a tee ball across the river from the middle of the 11th fairway about 40 yards short of the green.  13 and 14 are already pretty good holes, and when you played 12 that way -- what a neat three hole stretch!

Sorry to bring an old topic to the fore, but I was reading this one and was astonished to see Leo J. mentioned on here. I have so many Leo J. stories. I spent a cold Massachusetts Octobor on the Harvard golf team leaving the Square at 5:30 am to go play 9 holes at hit balls at the course we affectionately nicknamed "The Bone." Every day, we would get there before 6:00 am and there would be multiple groups already teed off in the pre-dawn dark. No matter how early we got there, there was always a group of middle-aged guys off before us.

Leo J. might have the worst drainage of any course I have ever played. The stretch that Jay mentions is frequently under water. The 17th is a 300-yard, 80 degree dogleg par 4 that has about a 35 foot drop from tee to green. Your options from the tee are

a) hit a 6-iron to the top of the hill and a wedge onto the green
b) attempt to hit a cut driver over the trees at go at the completely blind green which is surrounded by hazard.

What a place.
If I ever get back up there, I'll take some pictures, post an aerial, and start a thread asking for ideas about how to make the course significantly better without spending more than a few thousand dollars.  I bet you could do it.

Evan,

Ponkapoag is where I learned the game and I hold it in a very special place. There are still 18 original Donald Ross holes in that 36, including some fantastic ones that have been brought low by terrible irrigation.

The Institute near San Jose, Ca  was mentioned earlier in this thread and I still have yet to find anyone who has played there and in this group at GCA that is really something. Thought I would try it again, anyone play the Institute?

Here's some background for those not familiar with the Institute:

Hasn't the Institute changed names, and now hosts the Frys.com Open and a future US Women's open? Try the new name, and I think you will find someone has played it.

Here are mine = but first I have to say I just love
Chechessee Creek Club
and have truly enjoyed getting to know the course really well.   It is a joy and privilege, and just a great golf experience.  Will be there on March 16 for five days !!   ^  :) ;) .  But,  wouldn't one be expected to list C C C ??

Dan Grossman - one of my five is also my alma mater;s course Bucknell GC .  Not sure the last time you played it, but a few years ago they really cleared out the undergrowth and trees especially on the back nine.  There were too many evergreens and opening it up has been great, including the left side of 14 where if you pulled the tee shot a little it was "morte".  Quite a lot of sidehill lies, but reasonable.  Shot a 31 on the back in spring 1980 after many pony R Rocks !!

1. Bucknell Golf Club, Lewisburg, PA  USA

2.  Pocantico Hills Golf Club, Tarrytown, NY USA - perhaps Wm Flynns most unusual course.  HARD to get on.

3.  Nord Nederlandse Golf & Country Club, Glimmen, Province of Groningen, the Netherlands.   Could have said Royal Haagse, but everyone would say that.

4.  Highland Links, Truro, Massachusetts, USA- truest links course I have played in the US.

5.  Club de Golf Cowansville, Cowansville, Province of Quebec, Canada - maybe the best deal on golf I ever had.  $28 canadian in the afternoon with a trolley and a sleeve of Titlelist NXT Tours.!  NO ONE on the course. This was a few years ago.

Other candidates:   Heathlands G C - Onakema, MI,  Beuna Vista G C  - Beuna Vista, NJ,   Lake Waramaug CC - Lake Waramaug, CT,  Saranac Lake GC. Saranac Lake, NY,  Green Pond - Newfoundland, NJ ( looks like it's gone).  Cummaquid G C - Yarmouthport, MA

Yep, you're right. They are quite close in location, and I may have misremembered or the projected move didn't happen or some such thing. Se la vie.
