I think that's as good as I've seen Colonial look in years.

From the photos the sand looks almost blindingly white. Is that the case in person?

The "classic" mowing pattern is killer - it looks really cool.

Thanks guys! The sand is very white, but is staking its claim as being a VERY, VERY good bunker sand. Its a completely different bunker sand than the brown local sand that was once here. We watched tee shots bounce 12-14 feet in the air yesterday and into the rough-so cool to watch!
Sam,-I can remember seeing some unwanted water here about 2.5 weeks ago... ;)

Tony,

It looks great.  I was down a few weeks ago and the bunkers look absolutely great.  I typically do not like the bright white sand in bunkers but it looks great at Colonial.

I guess you continue to get some rain in Fort Worth.   A few years ago nothing was that green in North Texas.

Good luck with the weather for the tournament and the million other things to worry about.

That mowing pattern looks as great in pictures as it does in person. I understand there may be cost savings as well on the maintenance end as well with this pattern. It is a nice change from "striping" wall to wall.

Tony -
Looks like you and the team did a great job preparing for the tourney.
Are you able to comment on the trees on the course?
Some would suggest that they are quite mature and seem to tighten the course more than perhaps was orig. intended.
Even more might suggest the course could be ripe for a tree removal program?
Thanks!
Chip

Tony, it looks lovely, and looks like that bunker liner you were bragging about worked well after the flood!  Congratulations, your members can be very proud of Colonial.

Just wondering, what did Kyle K mean by "new course?"

Thanks for all the compliments! The course has really come along well, especially since the rain 2 weeks ago!

Chip,
Since my current boss has been in place for the last 4 years, he has spearheaded a large amount of trees being removed, along with all their canopies being lifted and thinned out. We removed some very sensative trees during the renovation, and in fact, are limb up some today. all in all, the coridors are MUCH better than the pics prior to his arrival.
  Bill,
I think that Kyle is refering to "new" because of the renovation last summer-New tees, new greens, several new landing areas, a new #13 green, #11 is mostly new along with all the rock walls, cart paths,e tc....

Course looks great! Good job by yourself and the crew! The approach shot to #17 looks great!

Quick question: What's the name/supplier of the bunker sand you used?

Tony,

Why are the greens so soft? They are destroying your great golf course with no wind and soft greens. Will you firm up the greens over the weekend? Any inside information you can share?

Stephan,
The sand that is in the bunkers is a crushed sand from Arkansas called Premier White. Thusfar, the Pros are LOVING the sand.

Tim,
As for the greens being soft. They really arent that soft, BUT we are off our typical watering schedule. We usually handwater ONLY, getting in a out of play, unless needing to water in a fungicide or wetting agent. Because the TOUR REALLY discourages us to put water on the greens during play, we need to get the greens to about 2-3pm in the afternoon without water. Along with an inch of rain earlier in the week, , we've had to run 1 rotation at night and without any of the wind that is typical in these parts, it takes much longer to dry out. I was with the PGA Tour official this morning, putting to every hole position for tomorrows round and they are much firmer than yesterday with good speed.
