Kings Putter 2010

Distinguished members of the Golf Club Atlas tree house,

At the behest of others within our circle, I am formally accepting the duties befitting the captain and organizer of next year’s King’s Putter competition. The honorable Patrick Kiser has agreed to serve as my co-captain/scapegoat.  Thus, I am confident that, through our combined efforts, next year’s gathering will be among the ten best King’s Putter events ever staged!

We expect to make an announcement towards the end of 2009 reflecting details of the event, to be held in Northern California during the April-May timeframe of 2010. All registered GCA discussion board participants are welcome to attend.

If anyone knows a dozen or so members willing to sponsor several dozen guests at Cypress Point Club, the Olympic Club, and/or San Francisco Golf Club, please IM me at your convenience. ;D

Stay tuned for more. I hope many of you can and will attend.

I thought KPC 2010 was in Bandon the week of June 1???

Unfortunately that side excursion is going to render me out. I am somewhat firmly committed to KPC 2011.

Way to step up boys, well done.  We most definitely need new blood in this and you two are good eggs for rising to the challenge.  I have great faith it will be another fantastic event.

Boy ... the pressure's already mounting and it's not even two weeks past KP VII.

As for the rest, hey silent or not, your help will be needed, so you too get the "good egg" title.

KP 2010 is in good hands (note I don't dig the Roman numerals, too confusing and difficult to remember which was which).

And there's little pressure... if you plan it, they will come.

Ok boys, let's not get giddy and get to work.  You will have your hands full just matching Robert's and David's outstanding work in this year's KP.  But if you really want a Herculean challenge, try to surpass the KPI, by far the best one IMHO.  I am sure that Huck and Ed Getka can give you all the sound advice you require.  I know there is no Barona in NoCal, but is there another Pete Lavallee?

It is interesting what you can learn by following this site.  After some 15 years as a Microsoft shareholder, I finally figured out why my investment in these proud, self-proclaimed "smart people" has been so disappointing: they're giving the product away!  Perhaps, as consolation, I will get an advance copy in the mail.

Great points by both Lou and Bill.

There is only one Pete L.. and there can be only one party like that one.  One look at that picture - and the incredible array of participants - is enough to show that such a thing can never be repeated.

But what will also be very very very difficult to repeat is the thought of getting a great club like Sherwood basically to ourselves for a day.  Hopefully most realize how incredible that was, and what a debt we all owe to Peter Wagner.

So no pressure on these guys.  It's tough up here in Norcal - we have no great course at a great price like Rustic Canyon, nor is it very likely they can commandeer a private club for a day.

So my feeling remains that whatever they come up with, it will be great.  In the end it's the PEOPLE who make these events, not the venues.  Of course an interesting venue is required, but I feel confident they will find that.  It's more up to US to make their work fruitful.

Good work Kyle. As you know, I come for the golf, but ultimately stay for your pythons. Will the "gun show" be part of the opening or closing ceremonies? Patrick, will you be wearing that greasy vintage Padres hat, while at the same time reppin' the NCA?

I agree with Huckaby and Obama that this is "for" the people. Suggestions would be: 1) keep the venue(s) as close as possible/integrated so certain folks can get HAMMERED, 2) devise a format on a 36 hole day where "everyone gets to play with everyone" for at least a few holes 3) do something to speed play, perhaps an ABCD scramble for one of the rounds.

From past experience I will say this... those have pretty much always been goals, and it's always been easier said than done.

But our boys have a long time to figure this out.

I would say that two man scramble for one of the rounds ought to speed play, and that ought to also be a goal for that 36 hole day at the very least.

If the economy doesn't pick up and I don't get my vacation time back, there is a high probability it will be a forced separation.
