The 1934 aerial shows the old course and the new holes or at least the new hole corridors that make up the present course.  I count more than 18 greens on the aerial.

Greenwich had a great opportunity to really improve the course with Gil Hanse and George Bahto on board, but I am sure the decision makers within the club knew better ???

It's too bad about the membership. Probably could have been a solid Doak 6 with Gil and George aboard. If ever in Greenie head to Tamarack and/or Round Hill.

While not a Raynor, Tamarack shares many elements in common with all the CMD/Raynor courses.  Designed by Charles Banks, a Raynor disciple, we still have our Alps hole (#6), uphill tee shot with OB on the right, slight turn to the right once you reach the crest of the hill.  Only the very longest hitters can reach near the top of the hill, typically second shot will play 165-195 blind to a green protected by bunkers on the front left and right.  The hike uphill does leave one a bit out of breath, but turning around and looking back down the fairway towards the 5th and 17th greens is one of the most beautiful vistas on the course.

I agree with the others that its a shame the club has chosen to stand pat. That 1934 course looks a hell of lot more interesting than the present course....the bunkering especially. Its ironic the present membership seems so content, in researching the history of the course the one thing that stood out is the club never being completely satisified with their course, they were constantly trying to improve it.

If they ever do decide to restore I'm not sure I'd bring in a Raynor expert to Raynorize the course. IMO that 1934 course was unique and making it into a typical Raynor would no doubt would be an improvement, but perhaps not as interesting as the original.

Speaking of Raynor/CBM's influence on the course as seen in that old aerial, I see a Redan, and perhaps a Biarritz, but no other templates standout. What other CBM prototypes are seen in that 1934 aerial?

Tom,

There is a punchbowl green that if you zoom in you can clearly see.  It's on the right side of the course.
As for other templates, the 10th is a short.
I am not sure about the others.
