Plainfield (Ross) Good News
« on: April 06, 2009, 10:56:14 AM »
I  recently heard that this great Donald Ross design in New Jersey is under serious consideration to host the Barclay's PGA event in 2011 or 2012. I look forward to seeing the tour players at Plainfield !

Mark,

Plainfield is a wonderful golf course for members, guests and amateur competitions.

I'm not so sure I'd be ecstatic about the PGA Tour's visit IF the golf course will be altered.

While Plainfield can be a stern test for amateurs, those guys on the PGA tour are really, really good.

I hope Plainfield DOESN'T narrow their fairways.

Yeah, what he said! ;)

Seriously, this makes me a little apprehensive about the possiblity of the course being changed to accomodate the tournament.

While I thoroughly enjoy what Plainfield offers the decision to host The Barclays will likely alter the architectural side of things. Invariably the progress made could very well be impeded by a return to excessively narrow fairways and other PGA Tour additions.

You also have logistics to consider. When the Buick Classic was played at Westchester CC they had the necessary elements to handle cars and all the goings on that happen with such events.

Plainfield had a difficult time logistically with the '87 US Women's Open and when you add a big time event like the one being contemplated -- the result, at the least, will be close to chaotic I fear.

You make a very  good point. The restoration has been magnificent. I hope bunkers in the sky are not planted.

The first thing the pros will want will be for the first green to be flattened and then it will go on from there.
