Spring Break at Bandon
« on: March 06, 2009, 10:43:05 AM »
I found this story about the poor students from the Professional Golf Management Society at Penn St having to go to Oregon for Spring Break.

http://www.collegian.psu.edu/archive/2009/03/05/pgm_students_to_travel_to_oreg.aspx

They are getting a break on the cost too.

"Handley explained that because of the heightened interest for this trip the resort chose to endorse the tournament by allowing the students to not only play Pumpkin Ridge for free, but also discounted the price of their golfing fees to only $50 at Bandon."

We all know that the trip is going to be one of their best Spring Break trips ever. Don't you wish you were back in college again?

Any members of GCA going on this trip?

Sophomore Patrick Modafferi wasn't too excited about taking this cross-country trip.

"I would rather be somewhere warm, but I was pressured into it," Modafferi said. "Acapulco was not in the budget."

***And this kid is IN the PGM program??? He should quit.

I thought it was funny that the reporter said that they would have poor weather. Compared to the weather in State College, the weather in Oregon will be tropical.

Agreed about the weather, Scott. State College does seem to get their best weather in the spring during that weeklong stretch when everyone takes off.

As a PSU student who is not in the PGM program I'm jealous of those kids. But my golfing spring break could actually rival theirs in golfing quality and poor weather.

When I was in the PGM Program at Penn State, the annual trip was to Kiawah immediately after finals in December.  It was set up by the students, and we got to play for carts fees.

I miss those days... lots of great, cheap golf, lots of alcohol, and little sleep.  8)

Wow...you guys catch everything. I am in the PGM program and going on the trip to Bandon Dunes. As of now it is going to be 50-60 degrees in State College for the next few days which is the same temperature as Bandon. As for Pat Modafferi's quote. He is a good friend of mine and the article was written by another close friend of ours. While Pat's comment can definitely be taken the way it was by Mr. Craig let me assure you we are all beyond excited for this trip and my classmates comments were taken out of context when we were joking around with the reporter. As for the trip. We will be playing the Ghost course at Pumpkin Ridge, touring the Nike campus, and then playing all 3 courses at Bandon with a tour scheduled of Old Mac. Should be an amazing week. Following the trip, myself and three others are flying down to Cali for rounds at Meadow Club and Spyglass (where we have interned), along with a quick tour of Pebble. I can't wait to see Bandon Dunes. My roommate at school worked there last summer and can't wait to see 24 students play links golf for the first time. I'll be sure to post tons of pictures of our trip! Wish us luck!

So he was "misquoted" in his school newspaper in an article his friend wrote?  ;) :)

Sounds like an awesome trip. I'm jealous.

One of the smartest things I ever did in College is spend my spring breaks in Pinehurst instead of all the morons baking away on the beaches of Mexico.

As one of the morons who used to bake away (albeit in Lauderdale rather than May-Hee-Koh) I don't remember good weather in the Carolinas until after Spring Break time.  The first weekend of SB at Wake was always ACC Hoops tournament and was typically rainy and cool at best.  We couldn't wait to get out of W-S.

The Yale girls golf team knows how to party.

And no I'm not joking.  :)
