JNC,
I worked at the course not long after it opened as a forecaddie. Those were the days before the clubhouse and only Lakeside was the only course opened.
Lakeside won Best New Private in 1991. As was mentioned, the course conditioning was flawless and there were conditioning parallels with Augusta. The greens were quite difficult. One noted PGA Tour player left the course in disgust after a U.S. Open Regional Qualifier describing the greens as "Mickey Mouse." Like many of the high end courses around Atlanta, the bent grass greens could get mighty fast.
Overall, I liked the course. There were some excellent holes (1, 6, 10, 12, 13, 16) and some that were just OK. Lakeside is a fun round though.
Creekside has been discussed on here before. It opened not long before I left so I only got about 4 rounds to caddie on it. I will say it's unique. If you're crooked off the tee it can be a long day. I never cared for it although there is only one hole I believe is just horrible. Hole #5 is the first par 5 on the front nine. It's a forced carry drive followed by a forced carry to the green. The hole is full of awkward angles that just don't fit. I have a hard time accepting a hole where a player has layed up properly only to be blocked out of playing to the green by a grove of trees. It's been 16 years since I've been on the course so my only hope is that this hole has somehow been changed.
In any event, have a fun day. I'd love to go back and see the courses. My most recent visit to Lakeside was in 2000. The biggest change for me was all the houses surrounding the course. None of them were there before.
