Out of my league! But the cause looks tremendous.

But, Brian, I love your last name. Having one of the turf  macro-nutrients as your last name would be cool, especially if you're a super hero:

Considering what the average Sebonac member probably ends up paying per round, $1K is actually a pretty good deal

A good deal if you are a Sebo member, not if you are...let's see...sentient and realistic.  $1000 for 18 holes?  Come on...it's two years old and has as its claims to fame the marriage of golf's George Bush and Al Gore, and a couple high-end neighbors.  If money means that little to you (dog cloners, pay attention), by all means, drop the coin.

I think the choice of venue is to help draw more money and attention to the cause....not vice versa........

That is a bargain... the big charity event in Cabo this weekend is $5,000 per player.

For $1000 I'll pay for myself and Matt Varney, only if Gerry Cooney and Matt agree to fight after lunch. If Randell "Tex" Cobb is there next year I would gladly pay double.

Brian,

Thank you very much for posting this.  It sounds like a wonderful charity will benefit and the opportunity to play such an exclusive course will hopefully make this a successful venture for The Retreat.

If I lived closer I'd be all over this.  Hell, how much does a round at Pebble cost now, including the mandatory stay at the Lodge?  And this would be tax deductible!

Doug:
I'm no tax expert, but I think you only get to deduct the amount paid above fair market value for the round.  So what's the FMV of a round at Sebonack?  Is it appropriate to use the guest fee?

There is a charity tournament

I think maybe some people here missed this part.  ???

Enjoy these while they last --since all our needs are going to be taken care of in the future these events probably won't be needed.

Unless they specify the amount you pretty much can put down whatever you want and it only matters if you are audited.  I think it would be pretty easy to defend putting down say $200 as the fair market value, regardless of what the guest fee is, as 99.9% of all courses will charge less for a day's play.

A charity outing I've played in for 5 years at Meadowbrook is up to $750 and I know there are a couple each year at Winged Foot for $1200 a player.

The guest fee at Sebonack is $500, plus caddie.  However I believe some preferred memberships were sold which allowed the member to bring guests for free for a couple of years, I think.

It is a good course at which to be an honorary member!

As a computer geek, I have to ask; is it $1K or is it $1,000?

Everybody knows 1K = 1024, right?

It is great that courses like this provide a day for charity.  I wish more of them did.  Hopefully the people who do play will treat the course with the proper respect and the group will be asked back.

It always helps with the membership if no one can tell the next day that an event was just held on the property.  Stops the whining.

Pebble is actually down to $325 including cart (i'd prefer caddie) without a stay in the lodge required.

That rate is technically for NCGA members but I have a hard time believing they wouldn't give it to anyone.

The tee sheet has been pretty EMPTY lately.

Three rounds at Pebble is tough to turn down for one round anywhere else. Augusta definitely, but I'm not sure about anywhere else.

So you live in New York,
have never played Sebonack,
don't know a member,
have some money left,
and are a charitable person.....

and you're supposed to compare $1000 for an outing to a round (or three) at Pebble?
that makes no sense

if one can afford it-it's a great deal for all

Are there any other clubs with an (accompanied) guest fee that high?
