Tom Doak - Renaissance Golf Design Website
« on: February 25, 2009, 12:00:22 AM »
I have tried to visit Tom Doak's website, but I am unable to find it....whenever I Google Tom Doak, the links that come up do not work.

Anyone have the correct site address?

Frank,

If I remember correctly they are:

www.doakgolf.com and www.renaissancegolf.com

Those are the domains that I went to in the past.

John,

I recalled those from my memory.

If they are not working its not my problem its a server issue.

I had the same problem yesterday when I was looking for Tom Doaks web-site searching sth. using both before mentionned links -
instead there was a good looking blond girl appearing on my screen - certainly not Tom Doak and (unfortunately) not related to Golf architecture...

John,

Maybe you should have done a simple google search before saying Matt posted the wrong link.  His first link www.doakgolf.com is Tom's website - if you go to google and search under Tom Doak, that is the website that pops up.  If you used the cached feature you see the old first page.  For some reason the website is not working or active.

I believe Tom has grown a long beard, given up GCA, and is launching a career as a hip-hop artist.

To which point GCA.com becomes a hip-hop discussion board.

It was actually Tom at the Academy Awards in the beard posing as Ben Stiller.
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

I'm not sure what you guys are seeing...  I just tried both links and they work fine.
Doakgolf.com is a pointer to renaissancegolf.com and they both are operational.

But they weren't working correctly for at least a day or so.  My guess is that is was a DNS issue.

Thank you to everyone who noticed the problem.  (I guess that some people actually DO look at our web site after all.)

We have been working on a revamp of the web site, and while we were doing so, two of the three domain names expired.  I appreciate the alerts from several posters, so we could renew them before someone swooped in and bought them so they could sell them back to me.

The new web site is still about a month away.  I'll let you know when it's up.

Gosh, Tom, you are very fortuante in that regard.  I thought that there were companies out there in cyberspace whose sole operation was to grab domain names the moment they expired, in order to sell them back to dependent business-owners.  I'm glad you weren't a victim.  My expectation is that by any means (legal, negotiation, purchase, etc.) it could have cost you four figures each to simply get them back.

GCA,

This happens all the time just secure your domains with a credit card so they auto-renew with your registrar every year or lock them down for 10 years.  One thing I would add is that not all guys looking for good domains are pirates to hold them hostage for a ransom.

Several years ago, I secured all the domains for Coore & Crenshaw.  Then I made contact with the firm and told them I had them in safe-keeping and when they were ready we could build a nice website to showcase their portfolio.  Well several years passed and now my company www.activstrategy.com is currently designing and building a website for C&C working with Scott Sayers that will be located at www.coorecrenshaw.com

I have always been a big fan of C&C's design work and for me personally its an honor to design and build their website and not once did I consider making them pay out the nose for the domain names.  Personal integrity and character go a long way in business!

OK, Matt, you opened the gate with that last post.  What would you have said had the firm decided to go with a different web designer?  Would you have sold them the domains at cost?

Not being a prick, just wanting to know.  The swoopers I've encountered in the past have been opportunists to a man, no exceptions.  Something tells me I'm into something new.

I can't stand pricks and assholes that would secure a domain name for $9 and then try to sell it for $1k+ a week later.  That is pure horseshit and if you make a living doing that and can sleep at night well that is just robbery and people taking advantage of business owners.

I never put any pressure on C&C to work with me that was purely their decision I am qualified to do the job and if they wanted the domains, no problem just pay me for what I have in them being secured for 3 yeras and they are yours.

You would be amazed how many grand plans are announced in the media with press releases and in advance they don't secure their domain names.  Perfect example is a new C&C project down in Tasmania called what?  The Lost Farm take a look and see who owns that domain.

www.thelostfarm.com

I do and I am not a prick so when they are ready its in safe-keeping!

Nice Eric!

I get pissed when someone would even suggest I am some snake in the grass lurking trying to lock down domains to make a quick buck.

Eric is correct.  I skated along the razor-sharp edge of transparency, expecting Matt to be mistakenly offended and anticipating that someone well-distanced would perceive my true intention.  This forum expects that we will police ourselves and I wanted to remove all suspicion from you.  When we defend ourselves, we frequently provide fodder for those that would attack us.  I'll tell Mr. Keiser to call you for the URL.
