Which hole is this? 3

Sorry it's not sharper, but it has all it needs for identification. I'm looking for its present number, not its old one.

6th hole @ Banff Springs, can't remember which nine. Matthew's correct, old 1st hole in Thompson's original 18.

Yes, it's the 15th of the Stanley Thompson course at Banff Springs. It must have been a formidable starter.

Would it have been possible for Thompson to have placed it the old 18th green on the Hotel side of the river? Would it be good golf?

Matthew, I can't imagine that would've worked better because it was a resort course, for one, and, playing the current 14th as a closer, then walking up the hill towards the hotel, is sublime as it is.

It must have been a formidable starter.

It wasn't so formidable as fun, but for the GCA outing a few years ago it was our starter.
And the course was better when starting from there too.

Matthew
I wouldn't change the old 18th - it was a nice hole.
The river is quite in play when coming home - I don't think it needed more river.
Or are you saying for proximity reasons?

I've never played but I feel if you have a heroic shot in a nice spot it makes a great hole as in CPC 16 mould. Imagine how you would feel if you finished your round by hitting that Par 5 in two by cracking one over that cool river. The design problem lies in gettin as many people the chance to try this without letting it become a Driver, mid-iron for the better player.
