Seth Raynor Book Title - HELP Needed
« on: November 29, 2008, 01:08:59 PM »
As most of you are aware there is a followup book to The Evangelist of Golf (the Macdonald story) a book about Seth Raynor (and Charles Banks), bios, etc and all those many course reviews.

Much of this book has been written - probably 70 % - and much of the story has been edited by my fellow conspirator, Gib Papazian - the left-coaster.

At one time all the information was to be in one book but there was too much material.

I’ll be working on the Raynor (yahoooo) over the winter months (I hope) and I’ve been looking for a good title for the book so I’m asking for help from my good friends on golfclubatlas.

Been kicking around:

Seth Raynor - The Unsung Hero ...... (used that in an article before)

I’m sure there will be some laughers but that’s OK, I’ve been wounded before.

I know we now have a lot of Raynor freak-a-zoides out there - any ideas
If a player insists on playing his maximum power on his tee-shot, it is not the architect's intention to allow him an overly wide target to hit to but rather should be allowed this privilege of maximum power except under conditions of exceptional skill.

Since the book on Mac was the " Evangelist of Golf", how about a title including the word "Disciple"  e.g. the evangelist of golf's first disciple.

Thanks fellas - I’ve been having too much fun over the last few years to work on finishing the book but I owe to SR to get it all out there.

Naccarato: perhaps the book will include the CP map via Tony Cashmore information - hah

Cerba: about what I would expect from Philly - excluding Gil of course .... wait til you see all the non-linear/non-geometric lines

Nice titles guys - keep’em coming !!!!!!

I like the 2-book Evangelist/Apostle-Deciple-type connection

JT,

You are the last person I would have expected to fall into the trap of using a hyphen in the titling attempt....not that there's anything wrong with a hyphen from time to time.

I guess I'd ask about the need to tie Raynor so directly to Macdonald in the title?

Raynor did far more work on his own than he ever did with Charlie, and although I know my friend George is sensitive to the implied geometrics in my "Engineering" title, it was meant out of pure respect and admiration for the fact that Raynor was able to make those template holes work everywhere from the mountains of northern GA, to the lowlands of SC, to the rugged rocky terrain of lower CT, to the canelands of HI.

Thus, the seeming incongruity but very historical reality of the proposed "Engineering Artist".

George, who is your market for this book?  People who know who Seth Raynor is?  Golf course architecture junkies?  Something else?
