One of my favorite ranges is the one at Galloway National in New Jersey. It has fantastic targets at a variety of distances and it practically abuts the first tee. My favorite part of the range is a fairway cut that allows you to replicate an on-course tee shot. Good ranges provide targets for wedges and irons, but great ones also provide a place to test accuracy with a driver or three wood. Galloway is the best I've seen in this regard. Not too shabby of a course either.

If your not allowed to use the range cause its for members only, then the facility stinks. 

I have a nomination for crappiest range in existance.  I'm sure there are worse ones, but the range at Lake Chabot is an absolute piece of crap.  Dry cracked dirt range with crappy falling-apart mats and little to no yardage info.  And to boot, your not supposed to hit anything more than a 6 iron or so due to its shortness.  Its been a few years since I've been there so hopefully they've improved it.

Nope!  They still won't allow more than a 6-iron ("Sorry for the inconvenience of no net," the sign reads).  Also, the range itself slopes significantly left to right, helping the golfer's slice...

Lahinch is a quality golf course with no practice facility.  They have to use the Castle Course during tournaments.

At a course in Chile I used to play often, the practice range crossed the 9th hole.  In fact, if you hooked it 20 yards left of center, you hit it onto the 10th tee (no net).  The best part I think was the course's official name: "Club de Campo Country Club."  Translated into English: "Country Club Country Club" ... 

I think my favorite practice facility is a wide 1st fairway.

I second Kalen re Lake Chabot.

But the course was recently upgraded... maybe the range was too (hoping)?

Great -
Kinloch (VA) - I second this nomination.  The best practice range/course combination I have seen.  It is a wonderful practice area with actual greensites and bunkers, great variety of distances, large space, up to date technology areas for lessons and indoor hitting areas.  Hard to beat and the course is world class.

Good -
Augusta Pines (TX) - another large range with multiple targets.  Visually interesting.  The course is fun.
MPCC - good site with lots of room.  
Tacoma C&GC - large space, multiple teeing areas, fairway bunker, two different visual tee options, multiple targets, close proximity to tee boxes, putting green, and chipping area

Bad -
Baltusrol - 2 good courses but practice area hits into the side of a hill.  
Winged Foot - 2 great courses but the driving range is lacking.
SFGC - place to loosen the muscles, but lacks interest
CPC - place to loosen the muscles, tight area, but it has a great view and you feel so special to be on the property.
Chambers Bay - close in proximity to the tee boxes but a truly booring facility.
Fircrest (WA) - special balls to restrict the carry.  There is a net at about 250 yards off the practice tee protecting houses in the rear of the range.  Hard to get a feel for your game.

The problem is that Augusta Pines seems to be on mats most of the time, that kills it for consideration.

BTW, I'll take the practice facilities at The Rawls Course.

I've heard that Calusa Pines has a very fine range.  How about Eden's summer homestead, at Maidstone?

Somebody mentioned Orange County National, which I know is a world-class practice facility.

Seminole is tucked into some limited property; does it have a range equal to the rest of the club?
