Lubbock and TT are great places for young people to spend four years studying.

Of the three Doak courses I've played, I think he did his best architectural work at Rawls.  An architect friend of mine who doesn't often laud other people's work couldn't say enough good things about the greens and surrounds there.  I long to get back there to see how it has matured.

Regarding the game, why didn't Mack Brown slow down the game at the end?  McCoy was taking the snap down the goal line with 10-15 seconds remaining on the play clock, and there was no question that they were going to take it in.  Alternatively, why didn't TT just let them march in when the touchdown seemed inevitable to preserve their clock?  TT was extremely lucky at the end which will likely run out against OSU, and they may very well get blown out by Oklahoma, probably the best team in college football today.

Lubbock is actully a wonderful place to go to school....no one can hardly believe it given the topography and location, but it actually is a great place to study.  I couldn't live there permanently now, but did enjoy my four years there.

Unfortunately, I still haven't played the Rawls course but my two best friends have and have had numerous positive things to say about it.  Their response is that it requires more than 1 or 2 rounds to really appreciate it and obviously the wind plays a tremendous factor on how it plays.  They just kept reiterating how hard it is to imagine the Rawls course in Lubbock.

I spent four years playing the ground game in Lubbock....the courses were bad and scenery was non-existent, but some of the most memorable ground shots I can recall were on the hard and fast west Texas munis.  I once hit a drive about 275 in the air that went OVER the green on a 409 yard hole.

As for the football game - Yes TTU was lucky and I don't care even 1%.  Anytime the Longhorns lose it doesn't matter whether it was lucky or not.  Their coaches and players are a classy bunch, their fans....well....I have a book coming out about that one someday.  Tech will be very lucky to win against both OU and OSU, but they won't be able to stop Tech.  It used to be that you could stop Tech because they couldn't run the ball, but now they run almost as well as they pass and their O-line averages 325.

OU will be missing their two best defenders so I think it could be closer than you think.  OSU will be a very difficult game this weekend.

Gene prepare to make the case for no Big 12 team will be there in all probablilty. I think Florida or Southern Cal is the likely over 20 point winner over Penn State. The BCS does not work. Of course there is alot of football yet to be played.  lol  I am drinking bourbon with a purpose this week while cussing the very existance of that Dead Bear School from Alabama.

SEC, Big 12, Big 10....this football thing has come down to about twenty communities through out the US who all think they should play for a National title every year.  The SEC has almost 35 millon a year in coaching salaries and many of those guys have their asses on the line by mid year.....come on....it's a roll of the dice based on who is injured at what point in the season.....it is a marketing mecca for these teams and fan bases.....and an industry in the university towns......millons are made off of these kids.....ain't gonna be no playoffs.....too good a deal as it stands.....a team can win a national title every 25 years and talk like it was yesterday.....in town here someone will mention Herschel Walker at least once a week.....and that was 28 years ago.....OH and the Dawgs were preseason #1....oops....injuries....and 128 points given up to LSU, AL, and FL and a town is in depression......maybe next year.... ;D ;D ;D ;D

Mike Young,

I was still trying to figure out what combination of wins and losses around the country would get my Vols into the BCS championship game this year when I heard they fired my man Fulmer.  I'm still not convinced we were mathematically eliminated.

Michael,

Its hard to watch a press conference like the one we watched yesterday with Coach Fulmer he was aksed to step down and it should have been done on his terms at the end of the season.

I am a proud UT alum and Tennessee has very high expectations and we are not willing to be Vandy or Kentucky in the SEC.  Now we have to start the process bringing in top tier head coach candidates that can elevate the football program and win SEC championships and contend for National Championships.

My list of prospects -

Jon Gruden, Pete Carol, Mike Leach, Butch Davis, Will Muschamp, Chris Peterson

The dream continues.  Penn State is out so the field gets smaller.

IMHO, the best 2 teams are Florida and USC.

So the team that lost to the team that Penn State throttled? Guess we'll get to see who is better in the Rose Bowl.

USC is way overrated.  Losing to an Oregon State team and then not being impressive in a marginal PAC-10 gives me no reason to think SC is THAT good.  Their best win is Ohio St. and then ?.  I don't think Alabma will beat Florida but at the end of the day, Florida lost at home to an unranked Ole Miss.

Florida is very good and then you have the combo of Texas/Texas Tech/Oklahoma.  Those are all 3 of the best 5 teams in the country.  Any of the 3 Big 12 teams and Florida would beat SC.
2024 Line Up: Spanish Oaks GC, Cal Club, Cherokee Plantation, Huntercombe, West Sussex, Hankley Common, Royal St. Georges, Sunningdale New & Old, CC of the Rockies, Royal Lytham, Royal Birkdale, Formby, Royal Liverpool, Swinley Forest, St. George's Hill, Berkshire Red, Walton Heath Old, Austin GC,

Bowl Champ. Series
Alabama
Texas Tech
Texas
Florida
Oklahoma
USC
Utah
Penn St.
Boise St.
Georgia

Still time for lots of changes and movement.  I doubt that USC or Penn State looses their final 3 games.  Not sure about the rest?

That is such BS.  Where do you live, Alabama.   USC three non conference games are Virginia, Ohio State and Notre Dame, not some panzy schools.  They are by far the best defensive team in the nation, nobody is even close and I doubt you can make any rational reason why they aren't the best defensive team.

Yesterday they beat Cal which was ranked #21 in the nation.

Yes they lost to Oregon State which has the freshman of the year and probably the Pac10 player of the year.

The East Coast bias is so blinding to some people.  USC has 3 first round picks and will have maybe 10 or 12 people drafted.

USC: 21

On that logic, Penn State squeezed by Ohio State, a team USC annihilated.

And Penn State lost to Iowa, which lost to Michigan State, which lost to Cal, which lost to USC.

This logic will never work....just like the BCS.

You USC fans are going to have to pull for OU next weekend as they are the last team with any chance to derail this Texas Tech team. If they win out, they will play some powder puff team from the North division, probably Missouri, and will be 12-0.  Texas Tech is an impressive team this year.

So it comes down to BCS votes(between Texas Tech, Texas, and Oklahoma) to decide who gets to play Missouri in the Conference Championship?
Seems pretty arbitrary.

Why not move Oklahoma or Texas to Missouri's  division for a week.
And let the two of them play for the SWC title.
Certainly not any crazier than eliminating a team tied for the tops in their conference and ranked 4th in the country.

The National Championship will be a real mess if Missouri wins the SWC title

Of course  the real national championship(1 vs. 2 ) is being played in Atlanta in December ;)

I have a real pet peeve about commentators saying a certain team is playing better than any other team in the country. A loss is a loss whether it was in September or November.
Unfortuneately for Texas Tech they lost late in the year but at least
it wasn't close and they barely beat Texas so I can easily
justify OK or Tex ahead of them.

A playoff system involving the top 4 teams (or a different alignment in the SWC Conference) would be perfect this year.
Or almost perfect as 1 vs. 2  and 3 vs. 4 would be a bit screwy but at least it would match the champions of the two best conferences this year.

Great game....and Penn State moves up to #2 ;D

amen to that.  Penn State v. Oklahoma.  Although Alabama against either should be great too.  And then you have Florida.  What do you do with Texas?  They beat Oklahoma by 10, Oklahoma slaughters TTU, but TTU beats UT?  It's a bloody mess this year, as usual.  Every third year or so we get a true 1-2 game and the rest of the time, we get hardtack and swill.  You know I couldn't believe it when I heard Paterno has had FOUR undefeated seasons where he DIDN'T win a national title.  That's highway robbery.

I don't wanna see a rematch of Penn State-Oregon State.  I mean OSU just squeaked by 'Zona at home.  Come on Ducks, pull an upset next week.

Hey KBM, I know you have ties to TTU, but they'll cut your horns off for not painting your words on GCA in burnt orange:

Here's my favorite UT football story.  I have a big tall, broad shouldered buddy who was at the TTU-A&M game at A&M.  As a joke he QUIETLY turns to his girlfriend, holds his middle to fingers with his thumb and extends the pinkie and index finger and whispers "hook 'em horns."

I guy three times his size instantly puts a meat slab sized hand on his arm and says, "Not here, son."
