I was fortunate enough to play Morfontaine last week in spectacular weather, and what a course it is. It reminds me of a mix of several of the courses in and around London, such as Swinley Forest, The Berkshire, St George's Hill and Sunningdale.
The greens had been hollow tined, which was a shame, and I would love to see them when they were at full speed at the height of summer.
Particular highlights for me were the drive through the chute of trees on 5 and 9, the incredible green complex on 10, the wonderful par 3 13th with the tree blocking the multi-tiered green, the "frog" or "snake" rock in the fairway on 14 and the green complex on 17.
As expected, the course was deserted.
I have some pictures which I will try to upload in due course, but if you ever get a chance to play there then you should jump at the chance.
