I have different dreams than you, Anthony  ;)

But on the subject of MM and TH and if I am included:

Playing a round or two with Melvyn at TOC would be really cool.  I'd like to do so with Tom Paul (he's never been there) and my oldest son.

I would prefer to play a round with Huck at Shinnecock Hills.  There's so much to teach him --might as well include Mucci at the same time ;D  Since my twin brother has never been to SHGC, I'd include him to round out the foursome.  Since we look identical, that should throw Huck and Mucc off their games  ;)

I greatly enjoy the wisdom, passion, experience, and insight of their opinions. What a wonderful round of golf it would be. It would be priceless to have annuall meetings. One year at TOC the next at Bandon the next at Pebble the next at Casa De Campo. So much to learn from each other and so much to pass down to others.

So for my foursome, If agreed I would choose Tom and Melvyn. But I don't have a forth.

  Where to play?

  Plus 4s or shorts?

  Featheries or pro-vies?

  Hickory or graphite?

Gulbis, Creamer, Blasberg and yours truly, of course.

Why don't you pick Tom Doak and play at Pac Dunes, thereby ensuring your victory for butt-kissing post of the year?
PS:  I'd pick my brother and two best friends and play TOC.

Me, and Tiger Woods.
Goal, get Tiger and Melvyn to talk the spirit of the game in hopes that Tom might learn something.
TOC of course.

Although I've thought of John Fogerty many times in this regard, I don't think he plays golf.  So we'll go with the following:

John Kirk
My father Bill Kirk (deceased)
Rick Barry
Bill Russell

Stanford University Golf Club.  The wind doesn't blow there, so I can comfortably chat with my one time playing partners.  We won't burden them with questions about basketball.

I admire Bill Russell so much I can barely control myself reaching for superlatives.

John K:  Jim Urbina and I got to sit and have dinner with Bill Russell at the grand opening for The Rawls Course ... he was one of the celebrities that Bobby Knight managed to sign up for the event.  You would not be disappointed to meet him.  What a nice man!

(Of course, so was Mr. Penick.)

I'm tempted to hijack the thread into a Bill Russell thread.  A good friend here in Oregon played in an event with Bill, and once it became clear my friend was primarily interested in the golf, Russell opened up and was happy and charming.

My dad wore a beard for most of his adult life.  I have this theory that he and many other men in my hometown subconsciously wore beards because Bill Russell made it cool to do so.  It sounds silly, but it's my story.

When I was in high school in Palo Alto, Rick Barry was the best basketball player on the local Golden State Warriors.  He led the team to the 1974-5 championship.  He was a great scorer and passer.  Like Russell, it is hard to find a similar player in the modern era, though Kevin Garnett has some similarities to Russell.

Thanks for creating this thread.  I've had the dream foursome ready to share for years, and although the Stanford University club is not my top course, it is the correct choice here.  Mostly, this thread reminds me how much I loved basketball, and playing as part of a team.

Realistic edition:
My Dad and my two brothers at the Bandon resort.

Impossible edition:
Bertand Russell, Mark Twain, and my wife; somewhere in Wales.

GCA edition:
It would be imprudent to name a dream foursome, but I will say it would definitely include John Kavannagh.

  Carl,

I would greatly enjoy Pac Dunes with Melvyn and get his perspective. Great suggestion. I hope you get the opportunity to play TOC with your brother. I have played TOC with my brother and I'll take Huck and Melvyn. I prefer Gentlemen Golfers.

Anthony-
I hope you took my post as what it was meant to be, i.e., just a gentle joke.

As for my foursome, I doubt I'll get to play TOC with my brother, unless something positive happens in his marriage.
