I didn't know who Sandy was at the time but had an interesting discussion about bunkers with him when played RCD with Tom Watson. Tom also plugged in with his take on the bunkers at RCD and in particular the 4th and how that hole has influenced his design in a big way.

On the 18th green shaking hands with Eger, Tatum proclaimed, "a quintessential day for golf."

At age 88, his language skills are better than anyone I have known.  I had dinner the other night with a member from Pine Valley and the R&A who knows Tatum and said his command of English is second only to Herbert Warren Wind the writer.

I was introduced to Mr. Tatum about 6 years ago in the Lake Merced men's grill, he had just finished playing with a couple of the other members of our Green committee who are very active in the NCGA and USGA committees.  I can't tell you I remember any of the conversation but he is truly a gentleman and a great asset to the world of golf.
