The others that nobody has ever successfully answered (at least, not from memory) are:

8.  Where did the Al/Ty vs. Smails/Beeper match stand after 9 holes?

7-2

Fifth Avenue is good.  Try getting the other one....it's in Florida.

BTW, nobody has gotten any islands other than dreary old Manhattan and Hong Kong... one is in the British Isles and the other is in Florida....

Shivas,
FL island was Hobe Sound?, uttered by Mr. Suave, Drew Scott when Lacy comes on the scene at dinner.   He mentioned he saw her there sometime in the past.

final note: THE funniest line to me is uttered by Spaulding to Danny Noonan;

"Ahoy Polloi, where'd you just come from, a scotch ad?"

I've been doing a little research trying to figure out the appeal of Caddyshack and why I am always uncomfortable around the movie's fans.  I found this article about Topper Mortimer, who is described as  "He’s Topper, a regular guy".  http://tinyurl.com/5d3fex  I offer it as a mirror for for your viewing pleasure.

My favorite passage, a prime example of blueblood courtship, is thus..I mean no wonder he quotes Caddyshack:  Topper Mortimer met his future wife the winter of his second year at Lawrenceville, when she was in the 12th grade and he was in the 11th. (She’d spent the previous year training at the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Florida.) “It was a snowfall and she was walking across the campus with a couple of her friends and I just grabbed her and threw her in a snowbank,” Mr. Mortimer said. “Anyway, that was my approach. She didn’t like it but she was laughing so hard she couldn’t breathe.”

Oh, c'mon...somebody here has to know what brand of golf ball Rodney plays. He asks for them and buys them in the shop with the naked lady tees, for crying out loud!

And I'm sure somebody knows what irons the Bishop plays, too...they're quite distinctive and a lot of us played them back then...

"give me some of them vulcan d-10's and set my friend up here with the whole shmeer!"

Does this logo look like Vulcan d-10's??

And by the way, it takes ~40 seconds for that putt to finally topple into the hole.  Not that Lou Loomis was one for the rule book, I wouldn't think.   :)

I dunno, Al slipped him a C-note on the first tee to "Keep it honest".

Brent,

Technically the ball was not at rest for more than a few seconds as the earth shaking was making the ball move ever so slightly.  The ball never came to rest for more than 10 seconds so the putt counts.

Fair enough.   If the bet was for $40,000 and Al doubled it for the putt, his team would have squared the match, and won $40,000 by making the putt.  Right?

As you can see from the dialogue, the ending still doesn't make sense.   How can you do a double-or-nothing bet if the match was tied going into the 18th hole?

____________________________________________________________
Gentlemen, this match is all even.
Final hole. Doctor, you are away.

Spaulding, this calls for the old Billy Baroo.

This is a biggie!

Don't let me down, Billy!

Forty thousand dollars...Billy!

I knew you'd do it!

"Silver wings upon their chest...
"...these are men, America's best."

Don't worry about this one.
If you miss it, we lose.

Hey, Judge! Double or nothing
he makes it!

Eighty thousand dollars!

What's that, Judge?

You're on!

We're waiting!

Noonan...you can do it!

You lose it, buddy!

Fore!

It's a birdie!

All right, Smails, that's    grand.
Now fork it over!

I'll give you nothing!
Absolutely nothing, you understand!

JWinick,

My interpretation is that Al & Ty offered Smails & Dr. Beeper to break even instead of letting Noonan make the putt for the win and $40,000.  Smails must have thought that the $80,000 would make it tougher for Danny to make it.  Smails must have been confident that Danny would make it on the original bet.  That's the only way to explain what transpired.  Unfortunately, it wasn't really explained.

Actually, I'm glad it wasn't explained as it has let golf nuts like us discuss such a trivial thing.
