Way OT - Casino Royal
« on: July 11, 2008, 06:33:40 AM »
I just saw the recent Bond movie - Casino Royal for the third time. Both Danial Craig as Bond and Judi Dench as M were terrific.  I'm old enough to remember seeing the first one, Dr. No, when it came out in 1962 and I've seen all since but this recent one may be the best Bond movie of all.

It was good, that Eva Green girl was solid. I'd never seen her in anything before, I went to google her and found lots of pictures. :o

Funny you should mention that, the girlfriend and I watched that about a month ago and it was fantastic. Eva was very solid in a damned good movie.

I thought the movie was a cross between Zoolander and the World Poker Tour.  The only thing missing was that douche from eight is enough commenting on the torture scene.  I remember when Dick Van Patten would spank my balls with a towell...Dream sequence..

Zoolander was quality viewing, Dick Van Patten keeps a special place in my heart for playing the King in Space Balls.

Then it was not your head I noticed on that pile after the battle (the one with the golf ball eyes out of their sockets with the smile). I won't tell you my dream sequence.

Sam

Loved the film.

I've been fascinated by the progression of Bond movies all the way from Dr. No, to Casino Royale.

The movies themselves are so interesting, even from the sometimes absurd action scenes, to the sometimes absurd story lines, to the interplays between Bond and his women.  The gadgets are fascinating and the movies give some insight into the cold war (it was always Specter who attempted to agitate the United States and Soviet Union into war, but it generally appeared that each side wanted peace).

I have seen them all and hands down, Casino Royale (with an "e") is one of the best, if not the best.  The gadgets are balanced, the story line realistic and the quality of acting outstanding.

I used to be a Peirce Brosnan fan, but Danial Craig is a much better Bond.  I am looking forward to Quantum of Solace.

For those of you who lust after Eva Green, rent a DVD of The Dreamers. It is quite an eye opener.

If you want your eyes opened by an innocent looking sweety take a hard look at Anne Hathaway in Havoc. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0285175/

Bob--

I second "The Dreamers." WOW.

The only problem is having to watch three hours of film to see 2 min of awesomeness.

Happy to see a Bond thread here. Once I saw Goldeneye when I was 10 I was hooked. I've probably seen each 4-5 times. Very much enjoyed Casino Royale and would put it as 1b to Goldfinger on my favorites list. Nothing will supplant seeing Connery beat Auric out on the links. Looking forward to November 7th. :)
Did you know World Woods has the best burger I've ever had in my entire life? I'm planning a trip back just for another one between rounds.

Pat,

I must say that I thought the wait was quite worthwhile.

The only thing not completely OT about this thread is the reference to the golf match vs Goldfinger, where Bond out cheats the villain.   Did anybody ever definitely identify that course?

The clubhouse is Stoke Park Club but I don't know if the golf that you see is from that course.

It will be interesting to see if the Bond franchise keeps on following the same pattern they have from the beginning with each actor.

They start out (relatively) subdued, then get increasingly ridiculous, until a new actor takes over and they get serious again.

Casino Royale was a good movie, but the fight scenes are Hollywood ridiculous - the punishment Bond and/or other actors endure is way beyond reality.

My only complaint was the quality control on the defibulator was pretty crappy.  You'd think they would have been stuff for a double-oh.  :-)

PS -- I agree.  It was a great movie.
