ESPN/Chris Berman

What was ESPN/ABC thinking when they put Chris Berman as an anchor on the first two days of The US Open at Torrey Pines.  Maybe O'Reilly or Limbaugh next time.....I sure hope not.

They're thinking Chris Berman is ESPN's patriarch and that if anyone deserves (or gets paid enough) to cover a premier event, its him.  He's not bad enough for die hard golf fans to turn off the US Open, but he's well known and may cause a non-golfer to not flip the channel away.

Mind you, this isn't my opinion....I think its drivel too.  But he does likely add viewership, not drive it away.

My wife kept telling me to turn it down because she can't stand him. I must say I somewhat agree with her. It may help him to breath more often, his vioce can be agravating. But I agree that he probably increases viewership and that of course is what they are looking for.

I think if Berman says "I want to cover the US Open" he gets to.

I've never been a fan, and he's even more obnoxious for golf.

But what are you going to do?

Boomer doesn't belong on a golf telecast, that's for sure, but at least we don't have to listen to the simpering Jimmy Roberts if ESPN is on.

My favorite on Thursday was when he said that, unlike many other groups, Tiger and Phil started from the "back tees."

He meant back nine, I think.

Ridiculous.

Boomer is ESPN's version of CBS's Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy. And as anyone who has listened to Nantz knows, he'll personally pour syrup on your pancakes every morning.

BTW, what's with the suits all of the announcers and newspaper commentators are wearing?  They look like a bunch of morticians.

I got a chuckle when he pronounced that Martin Kay-mer (should be pronounced Ky-mer) won earlier this year at "Abu Dubai."

At one point early in the coverage today(?) they went to the third hole and Dottie was supposed to set up the shot.  In stead there was nothing but silence.  It was so much better to hear the ball being struck and the wind and crowd in stead of minutae.

I hope someone invents a voice filter one day soon.
Thinking of Bob, Rihc, Bill, George, Neil, Dr. Childs, & Tiger.

I still think Nantz is the best. They could pave the fairways at Augusta and turn the greens into raw sewerage he'd tell us the changes are exactly what Mr. Jones would want and what a magical place it is.
