Colorado GC (pictures)
« on: June 05, 2008, 10:39:10 PM »
Played Colorado GC (Crenshaw/Coore) earlier today and have a few hours to kill at the hotel, so why not do what every man in his mid 30's would do to pass time - post bad pictures on GCA.com.

I've had the pleasure to play with golf's most beloved photographer in the past. And as you know, Ran is a pro that knows how to handle a camera and also brings a couple of extra batteries when he is out on the course. I obviously didn't learn anything from him since my pictures sucks and the battery died on the 8th hole.

Is that the entrance sign or are you just very happy to see me?

Well, the thunder storms made taking a cart sound like a good idea.

Hole 1 - par 5, 630 yds from the black tee

Hole 1 - gloomy view of the approach

Hole 2 - a pretty nice one shotter that plays 150 and a bit uphill

The green on 2nd.

On to the thrilling and partly blind tee shoot on the 3rd, par 4, 423 yds

The approach on 3rd

The second on the demanding 4th, par 4, 471 yds

Green bunker royal on the 5th, par 4, 466 yds

Trouble to left and trouble to the right on this 219-yds long par 3.

Tee shot on the short par 4, 8th that plays 305 yds uphill.

The green on 8th.

And that's it.

No pictures of the back nine means that I can't show you anything of the interesting 16th - a par 5 with a split fairway and the redan-ish 17th. Or the two-tiered green on the 11th. Or the inviting 12th. Or the... Well, you get the idea.

No I didn't. I really wanted to to but the rain picked up again after I walked off the 18th. Didn't bring any rain gear so...

Looks like a splendid track and the photos of the short course on their web site are very intriguing, particularly the bunkering on  No. 3, the skyline green at no. 4 and the mini-Redan no. 7.  Prior to google-ing their website, I was struggling to place the locale in Colorado.  To have this facility so close to the Denver metro is sublime.

Too bad your camera crapped out. You might have taken a good shot of my house (I don't live in the CGC development, but in the "slums" next door !)

For comparison's sake, here's a shot of the 2nd while under construction, a terrific natural greensite:

Thanks for the pictures. The tee shot on 3 - fantastic. I'm interested in knowing if you used that little hill to the right of the sixth green to redirect your shot onto the green. Again, here's a construction shot for the sake of comparison:

Kirk:

What is the square footage of the green complex at no. 2?  Looks like a great little one shotter.

Bruce, Eric would be in much better position to answer your question than I - as I've not played the course, I can just see it from my back yard! I did not mean to imply that I live in the CGC development, and have edited my post above accordingly.

I will say this, that #2 green makes a pretty small target.

Anyone?  From the photos it looks like about 2,800 sq. ft.!

I received the latest mailing from Colorado GC this week. The clubhouse construction has started, the club cottages for national members have started construction and at least one is ready and there are 35 houses in various stages of design. Only 40 lots out of 135 remain to be sold. There are 35 other lots being developed by one builder for semi-custom homes starting at 1.4M. There are 7 available spec homes ranging in price from 3.6m to 5.2M. This is indeed a high end development.

Bruce,

i don't know what square footage it is but I do know (a) it is a wonderful greensite--hit the green or you're totally screwed and even then if you hit the green and are on the incorrect side you are totally screwed by the rolls and fairly steep slopes and (b) the size of the green is appropriate for a short shot like this. A really fine short hole.

Can't wait  to play it.
