Green Committee vs. Greens Committee
« on: May 25, 2008, 10:19:33 PM »
How many, if any, clubs use the correct title of Green Committee as opposed to Greens Committee?  The thread on OTM and his being the "Keeper of the Green" got me wondering about this.  Tillinghast wrote a magazine piece vehmently defending Green without the s.

FYI - my club uses Greens.

FWIW, Rivermont Country Club in GA uses Green Committee and the article from our superintendent is titled "The Green Sheet" :)

We also have bunkers and provide hole location information to our members each day. ;)

Alas, though, we refer to four players playing together as a foursome   >:(

Wayne:
Clubs I am affiliated with use the term "Green Committee".  This term traces its origin to fact that these committees were originally formed to oversee everything Green relating to the Club.  Tees, Fairways, rough, greens, trees, etc., etc.   Thus the use of the term "Green Committee".  They are responsible for everything green.

Dave,

Then the Green Committee at Huntingdon Valley CC has less to do because, thankfully, the course has a lot less green  ;) ;D
