Would the Open of 1977 Nicklaus v Watson at Turnberry have been such a special Open if Watson had finished 72 to Jack's 73?? I think not we want to see the best head to head shooting good scores not hacking out of one dimentional thick rough around the greens.

Bradley, If you are going to talk history on here you've just got to get your facts right. Back then fags were just something they smoked.

I'm sure I've been called a lot of things in my life but I don't think I've ever been called a cigarette or cigar by a 16th century man.

I have all the respect in the world for all parties involved in those threads in terms of thier research abilities, intellect, and depth of knowledge on Merion...

BUT.........

The last few weeks those threads have been nothing more than grown-up versions of 2nd grader "yes I did/no I didn't", finger wagging, tongue sticking out, "you're stupid" level of conversationg.  I must have read dozens of times where someone said they were done, someone ekse said something to get them riled up, and it was all on again....over and over and over again.

I know it can be hard to walk away from something like this when it concerns such a superb club like Merion, but at what point does it stop?  No doubt its more "worthy" of the OT stuff that is on the board...but last I checked this site was about the actual architecture, not about pissing matches of who designed what and shipping manifests.

All I was trying to say we should agree to disagree and move on. I wasn't trying to start a new controversy I was hoping to tone down the current one..

It bothered me to see Wayne Morrison's "The Final Straw" post and I didn't want the three or four guys that were having their protracted Merion history vetting in the open forum of GCA drag down the board into this spiral of the last several days.

Its not about me making more interesting post, its about the visceral nature the last few days of Merion history posting has produced.

Again, ALL I was saying was....Just Move On.

Wayne said to me today, "we have become a blogger site", rather than that let's look back at  what Ran gave us at his "expense".
