Why The Chicago School of containment mounding... New
« on: May 23, 2008, 07:08:09 PM »
Sucks!

Had the recent pleasure of playing back to back courses with similar earth moving visuals around the greens.
They were from different architects, albeit the same dark era, circa 1985-88.

On Pete Dye's courses the mounding is just different enough to warrant further inspection and study.

The conclusion I'll proffer for discussion is that Pete's earth moving was more thoughtful and therefore more intelligent.

Since they are so similar in look, I'll assume controlling surface drainage was the justification and adequate on both courses.

However, It was the variety of placement, and, the deception aspect which is how my conclusion was formed.

When was the last time (date) rear containment mounding was used?
