"Inside Pebble Beach" Mag - Course Changes for Open
« on: May 10, 2008, 10:38:33 PM »
The Spring 2008 issue of "Inside Pebble Beach" mentions the following changes in preparation for the 2010 Open:

- New Fairway Bunkers on 4 and 6

- New Cypress Trees on 14, 15, and 16

- Lengthened holes 9, 10, and 11

Can anyone comment as to these changes?

Any pictures or aerial views available?

Paul... looking back at the article, it doesn't say.

The magazine is a promo item.  My name is on their mailing list from my visit years ago.

Peter McKnight started a thread on this, which is now on page 2. Titled something like 'Pebble Beach Lengthen 9-11'

Nick....who's responsible for the changes?

Arnold Palmer.

He personally told me that he confers with the executive partners and they approve the changes.  Clint Eastwood, Peter Ueberoth and Dick Ferris make up this committee.

The one thing and maybe the only thing that Palmer has not been able to get through is changing the greens.  They experimented on the 2nd green and it was a failure in kepping the poa out.   Palmer then thought if they built sub air sytems in all of the greens it would help but with the Open so close, they didn't have time nor did they want to loose the revenue.  After the Open it will be interesting, especially if Tiger complains.

Thanks for the information.  Palmer hadn't even occurred to me.

Arnie had some poor ideas for Spanish bay also. As far as I know he didn't implement.
