I regret that I cannot attend Dixie Cup V due to a schedule conflict.  That said, I played Pine Barrens Tuesday and left more impressed than the first time I played there several years ago.  A strong mixture of lay-of-the-land golf and dramatic golf holes that is playable by several talent levels.  Perhaps penal to the eye but strategic at its core.  Top ten in bang for the buck.

THIS IS A MUST SEE AND MIKE AND SARGE HAVE DONE A GREAT JOB SETTING THIS UP.  I'd also suggest adding on a stay-and-play at Sugarloaf Mountain which I enjoyed immensely as well.

Just do it.

Be sure and read the fine print on the stay-and-play:

*Tee times can be made in advance by contacting a Sales Representative. Real estate tour required.
Bearer is authorized to play one round of golf on Sugarloaf Mountain's Coore & Crenshaw course at a
special Member for the Day preview rate with the difference offset by LandMar (includes cart and greens fees). Additional restrictions may apply.

Mike, where was the green on that long par 4 with the two greens?  I don't know why they bother with the longer, lower green, there is no comparison in shot values!  Maybe it's #11?

Bill,

The upper/right hand green was in play.  One thing I like about that green is the small back-right tier where the hole was cut this time in tandem with the required long uphill second shot.  All too often the green contours for longer approaches are dumbed down.  Not here.

As for the lower/left hand green, I like it more than most.  It's neatly sited in the saddle with the absence of bunkers providing both a visual and playable respite in the routing.

I can make a five either way!

No problem with that, I just felt the shot values were so much greater going up that it didn't make much sense to play the lower green, nice though it might be.

Guilty. :'(

Sorry Sarge, I was on a tight schedule, teaching and hittin-n-runnin.  Didn't even have a tee time at PB.

Please forgive me.  Hillbilly on hillbilly violence is not a pretty thing.
