For those familiar with Pine Valley, are there houses on the perimeter of the course? It looked like there were houses behind the 6th tee, and that kind of shocked me. I have nothing to base it on, but I always thought the course was isolated from housing.
I don't know how I would ever have been able to look into the past with any degree of pleasure or enjoy the present with any degree of contentment if it had not been for the extraordinary influence the game of golf has had upon my welfare.

There are more than a couple of houses at Pine Valley....they blend in so well that you almost think of houses as being part of the package...

the house behind the 6th tee is very visible...as is the home behind the #7 tee which was the residence of the famous Club President John Arthur Brown...

"Doc" Dyson was another fascinating member who lived in the house about 200 yards off #2 tee.....as a young caddy I fished a few wayward spheres out of his front yard..."Doc" was a pioneer in the fight against mental illness
who would occasionally  threaten to experiment on us (caddy's) who represented "a perfect cross section of the mentally unbalanced"  (lol)
This would only occur after a bad read on the greens, as "Doc " knew all the yardages ...as did his friend John Ott.

Just yards right of the 3rd tee was the "Drexel " house....named after the defunct junk brokerage house....not visible but in close proximity to the course....if you looked high and right of the green from the third tee the Scott Paper House was clearly visible ...A litttle foggy right now if this wasn't originally owned by U.S. Steel  ...

Anyone who has blown one way right off # 4 has likely seen the houses right of the road...or played out from behind one

I alluded in a previous thread to the residence of the official PV historian Warner Shelly  (see funny caddy stories) Mr. Shelly's house was way right and below the 6th tee , almost equidistant between the tee and green... >  ..this home you cannot see ....unless on a walkabout for lost balls

many of us knew the aforementioned  John Ott,  long time resident /  gentleman / golfer who owned the home to the left on #9 ... his home blends  seemlessly into the foilage about 120 yards short and left of the  ninth green.. Occasionly a long , wayward hitter would hit one into the Ott yard by way of his driveway...the yard  typically harbored a fabulous canine friend of John's , often a large canine friend...it caused more than a few caddies to remind said player of the critical  importance of accuracy at "the Valley"

Interestingly enough....there  were never any homes built on the back nine to my knowledge , I'll be interested if anyone knows different.

Architecturally speaking ...no homes intrude on the experience!
