Golfers who journey to South Carolina (specifically, the Grand Strand) are looking for a high number of average to above-average (e.g. Caledonia, Heritage, The Dunes) courses, plus a variety of restaurants, plus shopping (perhaps), plus nightlife (perhaps), plus lower costs on both golf and lodging. Two completely different models, two completely different (though sometimes overlapping) target audiences.
