I do not like the left hand tee on 11.  The new back tee on the right side is very poorly done and the excavation of the slope to create a view of the fairway was ill-advised.  I'm sure Mikey Malone will scold me for speaking my mind.  Oh well.

Still beats the new one on 17....  ::)

 Wayne,

I don't know what drives you more crazy; that we agree   99% of the time or disagree 1%.

Pat,

Here is a photo from Ran's write-up.

Wayno,

The green is a two tiered green of approximately 13,000 square feet, with the lower tier being about 1/8 to 1/10 of the size of the entire green.

The tier elevation difference is probably 3 to 4 feet or more.

From the back tee to the center it's about 180-185.

The prevailing wind from the southeast is usually quartering from the left, mostly in your face.

The lower green is flanked by water on the right and a bunker left.

The green has water that wraps all the way around the back of the green.

There are three sets of back tees.

The picture is taken from the angle that's probably closer to the center tee, or between the center and right tee.

Hole location impacts difficulty.

While the carries are less heroic as you move to the left, you begin hitting toward the water as you move left, especially with a right side hole location.

The green does have a safety net feature in that the back of the green rises up considerably, forming a backstop for aerial shots, and an uphill ramp for rolling shots.

Play is probably 90 % from the right side from the back tees.

The tee marker code is:

Blue, red, white, yellow and green.

There are NO tee markers other than blue tee markers from the right and middle tee, as the shot would be far too difficult for the higher handicap.

As the tees move up, the angle of attack becomes more benign.

Blue tee angle = difficult
Moving forward = easier.

It's a great hole to play, with tremendous variety.

Hopefully, you'll get three bites at the apple this winter.

With a two tiered green, a strategic bunker, water short, right and long, with wind in your face, the hole is a wonderful hole and can be a round ruiner.

I agree. And the southern tee boxes make it a COMPLETELY different hole as well--playing downhill!

Beverly CC 17th hole -Its goes from hard to near impossible when shifting from the left tee to the right bringing several bunkers directly into play by forcing a carry into a very severely sloped green. One of four great finishing holes.

I think Jeff Brauer's #3 at Cowboys is a great example, with the wide shallow green also contributing. You can get 7 or 8 different angles and distances, and have 4 iron to wedge.

The 14th at Bryan Park (Champions) is very good in this way as well, one tee box allows for a long run up shot, but the other calls for a 200 yard carry over water. Very good hole.

#9 Kingsley Club is a bugger from tees set 90 degrees apart; it's tough to get close from any angle to this little card killer.

Click on the link and then "course tour" followed by #9 for the hole diagram and details.

The target area from either teeing location is tiny.  The only par I made was from the bunker on the west side! If you did manage to hit the green, the putts were very difficult with all the contour.   Great hole....tough par for such a short hole, and a lot of the continuing mystery is the different tees.

The 17th at Long Cove comes to mind:

As does the 14th at Long Cove

Actually, the design of the tees is one of the best things about LCC. They really change the way you play many of the holes. My wife loves the course because it is fun for her to play. I love it because it is so challenging. At our Donald Ross design at home, she hates it because it is so hard for her, and I dislike that it plays so easy for me. Of course, there aren't many teeing options there.

The par 3 third hole at Royal New Kent has an extremely wide variety of tee angles and distances to a green that also presents a tremendous variety of looks.

I'll echo Eric's thoughts and provide a diagram and a pic of said tees at the 3rd at RNK:
