Westhampton (Raynor)
« on: August 13, 2007, 01:08:23 PM »
This  is a fine example of early work by Seth Raynor. Excellent routing over modest property. a recent aerial revealed 20-30 more bunkers/ strings of pearls than were there in 1998. Also this course has brilliant greens. Has a restoration been a foot.  Mike R.  is a very good super.   thanks

Mark - glad you liked Westhampton - it is special and is one of my favorites. The greens are outstanding and yes Mike does an excellent job there.

A master plan is already in place and many of those original bunkers are scheduled to be reestablished.
If a player insists on playing his maximum power on his tee-shot, it is not the architect's intention to allow him an overly wide target to hit to but rather should be allowed this privilege of maximum power except under conditions of exceptional skill.

Jason,

I have only played Westhampton once. I really enjoyed it. But that Redan, I hit my shot just long into the pine trees just over the green. Tough recovery shot.

The Redan at North Berwick doesn't have pine trees. Just a stone wall separating it from the "children's course".

Cheers
