Playing Yale for the First Time

Playing Yale for the first time Tuesday.

What can I expect turf condition wise?

How are the greens rolling?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

I'm looking forward to checking out the architecture and design features!

I was up there last week. Everytime I play it in the post Scott Ramsey era, it is a little better than the last time. Over the winter, Scott continued his clear out on the back 9. The 18th is now a completely different hole from Ran's review. I doubt they will do an Oakmont, nor should they, on the interior trees but in three years that place will be awesome.

Scott was at Oakmont last week, my guess is he is chopping in New Haven as we type.  8)

A,
Enjoy the course and let us know what you thought of the design. Take note of the greens and how on some there is a side that is pretty straigthforward and there are areas that could challenge any golfer. If you have played many redans, I would be interested to hear what you think of Yales.
I'm curious to hear how #18 is different. I had the good fortune to play there are few years back with Mike Sweeney and really enjoyed it. I particularly enjoyed #2,10, and 17. There are a couple of indifferent holes there, but the rest more than make up for them. Yale is a great place to play golf.

See you there today.

I am playing at 2pm with a group of my buddies in our annual Challenge Cup.

Beyond the highlight holes of #4, #8, #9, #10, #13, #17, & # 18, take a look at what they had to do to construct this baby.  Also look for the routing plans in the clubhouse that show a 2nd 18 that never got built.  There are also excellent construction photos in the grill, Widdy's.

There are only two fairway bunkers on the entire course:  31 7 #11.  Both are well placed reference points.

Also, marvel at #14.  While not heralded, it has one of the best greens anywhere, and not a single bunker defending this oft-bogeyed hole.

Say hello if you are around at 12n-2p.  I'll be in Widdy's.
