Royal Ashburn Golf Club, located an hour northeast of Toronto, was designed and built by the then, and current pro Wilson Patterson in 1961. It is a semi-private course. It's local claim to fame is that it annually hosts the Fall Qualifying School for the Canadian Tour. I noticed on their website the following news item:
"Grand Opening of our New Tee Decks
There seems to be a trend in the golf industry to either renovating or building golf course to be longer and more challenging. A trend that I find very confusing. According to statistics the average golfer can't break 100. So why lengthen and make a golf course more difficult? We have gone the opposite direction.
Last fall we built 8 new tee decks to shorten the golf course to 5016 yards from our forward tees. A length that will allow women, seniors, juniors and the more novice player the opportunity to enjoy a top ranked golf course.
The tee decks will be open for play on Monday June 11. To showcase these tee decks we will be offering all Women, Juniors (under the age of 18) and all Seniors (over the age of 65) half price, on any of our regular or twilight greens fee rates, on any of the following dates."
A step in the right direction as far as I'm concerned.
