For U.S Open Junkies - 2007 Oakmont Coverage
« on: June 05, 2007, 09:05:22 AM »
Our lead Regional newspaper, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, has had daily articles, including Monday's Tiger Woods practice round where it's reported he hit driver only 5 times. This link, that is updated daily, also has some video clips of the new-look layout.

If you're a U.S. Open junkie, and want to read the Pittsburgh media coverage about the course and the players on a daily basis, you'll find it all at this link.

I will be surprised if Tiger hits 5 drivers in the first 2 rounds.  In watching the Memorial, it was stated that one of his 3-wood tee shots went 292 yards.  Why does he need driver at Oakmont when his 3 wood is going about 290, and he is one of the best long iron players in the game.  If he plays Oakmont like he did Hoyloke he should be on the leaderboard all weekend.

I highly recommend this as well.  My buddy Marino Parasczenzo has been a PPG guy for years and his stories are terrific.  I quote some PPG work from '83 in my preview piece which should be on cybergolf soon.

Bill...you nailed it...that's exactly what I said in my pice - he'll stinger and 2-iron everyone to death...he just has to make some putts.

On Monday, when Tiger played, the greens were wet from our previous day and overnight rain. If it should rain, and my Crazy 8 Ball says chances are likely that rain will fall on 2 of the 4 days, then even par or under will win.

If you don't believe my 8 Ball, ask Johnny Miller and his 63.

Tiger isn’t planning on hitting driver much at all from what I have been told. Only rain will make him change that strategy. I was chatting with the coach of a former US Open champion who reckons that Tiger will win easily if it doesn’t rain.

He also thinks that it will be a bloodbath for the majority of people unless there is significant rain (what is the forecast looking like at the moment?).

Gerry Dulac (the Post-Gazette's golf and football writer) is a good friend and a great golf writer.  You'll enjoy his stuff...
