On To Oakmont!

Now that we've seen what tree addition does to a formerly great golf course, we'll see what tree removal has done to a currently great golf course.

Is Oakmont the antithesis of ANGC?  Will the USGA competion committee screw it up like Shinnecock, or will the Oakmont US Open be the best ever?

Personally, I'm hoping that Oakmont has outshines ANGC and become the poster course for proper tree management.

I bet that the winning score at Oakmont will be higher than Augusta's + 1 over.

Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

Are you suggesting that "proper tree manangement" is defined by the removal of ALL trees?

I played Oakmont once in the rain with 3-4" rough.  If that happens, +20 is a distinct possibility with 20-yard fairways.

Careful.  After Oakmont, we might be praising Augusta National Golf Club for becoming the poster course for proper rough height. ;)

I know it's not an official major, but remember, next month we get to see what effects the new changes to Sawgrass will have.
