Tiger does it again
« on: April 07, 2007, 05:36:20 PM »
Anyone just catch Tiger's choice of words after hitting a wayward tee shot on 17.  Sure sounded like G** D*****.  Tiger's behavior on the course continues to leave much to be desired.  When he hits a great shot he pumps his fist and is in your face, so to speak.  Then when it's bad he cusses.  I guess he never learned that golf should be a gentleman's game.  I frankly find his behavior often boorish and at this point he should be able to control his mouth, as this is not the first time.

He's not the only professional that has drop a bomb on the course in this tournament, let's be equal opportunity bashers here.

I'm sure he could of said alot of worse phrases than that...and most players probably do when they are not on TV audio.

I would hardly throw the first stone on this either...if I had to play down there this weekend, I'm sure my words would be something to be desired!

I think Appelby just said "sh*t" after his bunker shot on 17, but I have to cut the guys some slack as they are under intense pressure and trying so hard to do their best.

It's the fault of sticking microphones where they needn't necessarily be.

Personally, I don't find "God dammit" offensive, but then I'm not religious, which would explain that.

Good thing they didn't have a mic in the middle of the 15th fairway after Ogilvy's second sand wedge...

He's at work.  If I have a bad day at work, I may swear.

For the record, my wife teaches 1st grade.  Don't worry, they already know ALL of the good words and their proper application.  Tiger isn't teaching them anything new.

We do hear it more from Tiger than anyone else.  Perhaps, it's because the mic is on more often, but he should be conscious of that.  I'm not offended in the least by poor language, but I don't recall golfers of yore choosing to curse.  As for Tiger I find the whole act is getting old.  Pump the fist, barely respond to the fans, curse, thump a club into the ground, etc.  Just makes it hard for me to root for him, but to each his own.

Its clearly because they show almost every shot he hits.

Tiger has not:
1. Beat his wife
2. Been involved in gang warfare
3. Amassed huge gambling debts
4. Associated with unsavory mob like contacts
5. Been investigated for steroid abuse

Considering that this seems to happen with at least relative frequency, then maybe the mic does not add enough to the telecast to make up for the outbursts. This has happened with a lot more guys than Tiger.

The Tour should fine Tiger his check.
Then get a couple pipe wielding MF's and go straight medieval on his ass.
After that, take his DC event away and force him to play the John Deere Classic.
Then, finally, force Tiger to read this thread.
That'll get the kid to straighten up.

I hope you're joking.

Tiger's occasional "G**Dammit" doesn't bother me in the least.  There is a microphone in his face everywhere he goes.  With the way he hits that driver sometimes, I'm surprised we don't hear worse.

I also didn't mind Appleby's F-Bomb last week either.  He was intense, it was a pressure packed moment, and after dumping it in the water to end his chance of winning, it probably would have been the first word that I would have thought of too. ;)

If any of you that are complaining about Tiger have never sworn on the golf course, more power to you.  You're either  a Saint or you're not that competitive.

That being said, I hope Appleby wins tomorrow.

Jerry - Don't you just mean it hasn't publicly surfaced that he's done any of these things?  The label on the Haterade clearly says not to assume the best of him for ideal effect. ;D ;D

Sully,

I don't think I've ever played a round where there wasn't something to curse about. ;D  A lot of them are silent curses that no one hears but me.

And did you hear Nick Faldo said the word "hell" during the broadcast? He should lose his job and be banned from Augusta!

I'm not sure about that. McCord actually used the term "bikini wax" during his infamous comment. You're not allowed to "excite" the Augusta "membership".  :o

Cliff, I take it you didn't watch on Thursday and Friday.  Tiger was swearing after about every other full shot.  I think he swears more than most, but I'm sure there are a few players out there who are worse, if not in frequency in word choice (not that it would bother me personally if he dropped the f-bomb after every shot, but I know it bothers some people)  What if they'd had a mic on Tommy Bolt, bet that would have been interesting, given his reputation!

One thing I saw Tiger do today I didn't particularly care for was spitting as he was walking off the 12th green after he bogeyed it.  He probably spit far enough to clear the green, but from where he was the only place it could have gone is on the fringe/rough short of the bunker, or in the bunker.  The only thing I hate worse than finding my ball in or near someone's loogie is if that someone chews tabacco!  There should be jail time for the former, and the death penalty for the latter.

Disclaimer:  I swear after my bad shots and when its cold out I'll spit on the golf course. But when I swear I don't have hundreds of kids following me around when I'm playing, and when I spit I always endeavor to do so in places where no one will walk or hit (i.e., never in the fairway, well away from greens and tees, away from normal traffic patterns, etc.)
My hovercraft is full of eels.

If you think Tiger is boorish, you never went to high school.

Tiger is an intesne competitor who is currently grinding it out on the hardest course in the world.  He holds himself to an extremely high standard, much higher than anyone else.  He carries the tour on his back.  I think he deserves to be able to let off a little steam.  What is wrong with this??  I find it hard to believe anyone has never sworn on the golf course before.  I'll be the first to admit it.  Cut him a bit of slack.

I was most impressed by the comments made by Mr. Appleby in his post-round interview, especially when compared to Tiger's.

Where Tiger in a very sour mood stated that he once again threw away a round "and then some," Appleby when asked about his triple bogey in a manner that seemed to intimate his having a complete collapse, stated that "these things are bound to happen at Augusta this week," and that he was actually "very pleased" about his round and "looking forward to tomorrow."

At the time of the interview he was no longer in the lead.

The man seems to have a good mental attitude about himself.

Tiger Woods: 31 years old, 56 wins, 12 majors

Yeah, Appleby definitely dropped an F bomb after hitting out of the bunker and into the water on 18 at Houston. It was emphatic, but not mic'ed. Ya didn't have to be a lip reader to know what he said.

I've seen Todd Hamilton hit one shot at the Masters and shout one G-D'it. I've seen Tiger hit hundreds of shots at the Masters and maybe heard maybe one or two G-D'its. A little analysis of those numbers is probably representative of Tiger's mouth in comparison to other golfers.

Phil is just lucky that, "OH NOOoooOOOooOO" is not a four letter word.
