I'm waiting for JakaB to jump into this topic and squash you all for your simple attempt to gain access to these courses.

He then will start a new topic that "What's the One Course Outside of the Top 100 You Would Like to Play the Most?"

Yes, Mike...I've been waiting for that myself.

Alright...I'll be blatant first.   Who can get me on Victoria National???   ;D

I almost didn't see the above post through the puke on my screen after reading some of the prior answers.  I do like the notion of the other thread.  I would have to say Dismal River for my choice of courses outside the top 100...If we only consider the Golfweek list I might also go with The Alotian as it will soon grace the Digest list and then be disqualified.

Mike, call Ted Sturges...I think he has more friends at the club than I do.  My second Ted Sturges reference of the week and I have never met the guy.

I too had those Jakabian thoughts before replying here.  But then I figured if a stated desire to play Augusta on this silly website somehow makes that dream come true, then I suppose we'll prove the power of this site once and for all.  I ain't holding my breath.

 ;D

Course outside any top 100 I'd most want to play?  Hmmmm.... I'm thinking Aberdour GC.  I'd like to see Goodale in his adopted natural habitat.

For the record, it never occurred to me when I started this thread that it could be used to solicit invitations to desired courses.  And like Huck, in citing Augusta as the object of my own desires I am virtually assuring that I would fail if this were my real agenda.

Mostly I was interested in whether the GCA wish list follows the general golfing public (which has such a marked preference for Augusta) and evidently it does not.

If only one, it's gotta be Barnbougle.

In the US, it would probably be Sheep Ranch.

Can't wait to play Cabot.... :)

If I had to pick one, I think for me it might be about walking in Ben Hogan's (limping) foosteps on his way to winning the '53 Open at Carnoustie.

If I'm remembering what I've read correctly, I think he got through the last round bogie-free, in the wind and the rain, his legs bandaged up tight, smoking cigarettes and hitting long irons all day long.

There's gotta be some kind of 'imprint' left there.

Darnnit, John.   I'm not coming unless you're in the foursome.

Our playing together would be a sure sign and also surely hurry along the impending apocalypse.

Royal Melbourne (Composite) -- that's unlikely due to the fact that they rarely play that configuration, therefore the more likely answer is Royal Melbourne (West).

Good call Adam, I was thinking Royal Melbourne Composite as well. Now if it is in the US, I will go with The Alotian Club then Sebonack, followed by Augusta National.

Augusta because of what I've seen on TV.

Pine Valley & Merion because of what I've read and learnt about them on this site ;D
2014 to date: not actually played anywhere yet!
Still to come: Hollins Hall; Ripon City; Shipley; Perranporth; St Enodoc

The courses in Northern Ireland
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

Hands down...TOC. I am assuming all who didn't pick TOC have already played it.

Because, it seems to me, with this question there is only one answer for those who have not played it.

Andy:  I have played TOC several times.

Even if I hadn't, I'd still put Augusta #1.

But that would likely be second choice.

Huck,

If access to TOC was as difficult as Augusta (and you hadn't already played it) would you still pick Augusta over TOC?  TOC is the one place that equals Augusta in terms of notoriety, but because it is accessible to virtually everyone I wouldn't consider it as the course I drop everything for if I had the chance to play it.

Phil:

I'd say we're on the same page.  Playing TOC is just a matter of time and money, and I kinda always thought I'd have enough of each to make that happen some day, and I did so.  I don't have the same realistic expectations for Augusta.  Thus how each is today does cloud the answer here.

BUT... I still think though that even if TOC was as crazy exclusive as Augusta, I'd still go with the latter as my number one.  Sure I value the home of golf - very much so - and I am into golf history - a lot...

But there is only one Masters.  I've watched it since I can remember seeing a TV.  I've envisioned myself playing those famous shots for just about as long.  A bit of this does apply re TOC as well... just not quite as strongly, not for me anyway.

I once did a Topic about golf's "holy grails"... both of these certainly earn that moniker.

Of the ones I have not already played, or about to play this year, then it would be Shinnecock.  I have seen it in person from the road and it looked amazing.  N.G.L.A. would be a close second due to its historical importance.

What's harder to get on, Augusta or the Institute near San Josel? I haven't heard anyone on this site that has played the Institute yet.

Seriously, my pick would be Cypress Point.
I love golf, the fightin irish, and beautiful women depending on the season and availability.

Tim - now you're getting technical.  Remember, by all public records, "The Institute" does not really exist.

But that being said, I have confidence I will play that some day... either they'll finally ask for an NCGA rating (in which case I'd have a very good chance to be on the team doing it), or I'll get some other invite.  I do know a few people who've played it already.

I have zero faith I'll ever play Augusta, and I know maybe 2 people outside of this site who have done so.

In any case, the exclusivity or hard to get on factor is really not the driving issue here, not for me anyway.  For me it's all about the Masters and reliving those shots.

Tom just how exclusive is Augusta now? Can pro's get on, superintendents, architects??? Someone once said the best chance is being an English greenkeeper.

Isn't the best chance being a golf writer?  Don't they still have the Monday tournament with the Masters press pool?

The beauty, architectural merit, and exclusivity of Cypress Point Club are all very attractive.

Royal Dornoch speaks to me from across the sea like no other seaside links.

CGC is right next door, and so I'm looking at it all the time !

But number one on the list is NGLA.

ANGC..............I think I'd like to actually be there for a Masters as much as I'd like to play it myself. That said, I'd give my left, uh, whatever to play it.

Adrian - I am none of those things and never will be.  Augusta might as well be Mars for me.  I don't even play any of those on TV, and I haven't stayed at a Holiday Inn Express in years.
