C&C Presentation at Sugarloaf (FL) Groundbreaking - 10/27
« on: October 17, 2006, 12:55:39 PM »
As part of a Links Mag promo, I received the following email and thought I would pass it along.

Might be interesting to check out if in the area (and if you can deal with the requisite accompanying real estate pitch).

John C?

No sweat, but sharing it was on the condition that, if you go, you share with us.

I rode by the place the other day....Faldo/Smyers is also building one right up the road.....Bella Collina.

The tee, green and turn poles are out and it looks like not much more has been done.
I need a nickname so I can tell all that I know.....

I might be able to make it.  I've seen the site.  A niece piece of property.

The routing of the course (sans bunkers, I'm assuming):

The back nine routng got me dizzy just following it!  What's with the circles . . . I'll fall down by 16 (and not from the heat) ;)

Guys,

I have a RE project in this area and believe it or not, the land moves quite considerably. Elevation changes here are rather dramatic for Florida and the routing is a product of a measure of land heaves, shifts, and wetlands along with view planes and residential siting. This site sits above the nearby Bella Collina, Ginn Resorts development

I'll try to wander around there sometime in the future and report back.

I'm sure this routing is all conceptual, but it's interesting they show the big knocker cutting the corner on dogleg left #9 but not on the absolutely parallel #16!  Maybe the big hitter is dizzy by then (following Jason's whimsey above!).  ;)

The residential areas appear to be shielded somewhat from the gc - at least most holes aren't through residential corridors.

It's ironic that these new communities emphasize their fitness centers and walking/biking trails but intend to restrict walking on the golf course to "certain days and times."

Have you played Pine Valley? On what hole did you fall down from dizziness there?

Is it that bad?  A three-hole loop followed by a four-hole loop followed by an out-and-back.  It never crosses itself and it never intrudes on the other nine.

Not surprised at all at the location. Mountain Lake is located next to the Bok Tower Gardens which are on the highest point in peninsular Florida. Coincidentally, looks like Mountain Lake is about an hour or so south of Clermont.

Heck, all one has to do is make a right out of the Mountain Lake compound and not turn to get there.

Gents

I noticed this about 6 months ago and have heard the sales pitch and been invited to be in the pre sale selection elect.
Either they are selling or they lost my #.

I heard that RE around Orlando is pretty slow; and with a another development right down the road? I read some bad reviews of Lake Anona(?sp) I like the C&C angle but don't the houses still look pretty confining around the GC?

Would still be interested in hearing on the ground reports

Thanks
Ward P

Ward. Lake Apopka.  The only problem is the location as the city hasn't grown that direction.  I think I'll join and love playing golf there, but it will be a few years before I can even think of moving the family.  Of course, if I were relocated to Orlando and didn't already have ties to Winter Park it would be a much easier decision.

Ward,
Here's a site plan for another of LandMar's developments. Now this is a gc with some confining residential homesites.

The plan for Sugarloaf looks a lot better.

I am a fan of C&C as are most of us on here. They are promoting this project hard. I get something every other week. I hope it succeeds.

Is anybody going to this event tomorrow morning?
Crenshaw, Coore and MG Orender are scheduled to walk the course at 9:30.
How lucky can we be to finally get a C&C in Orlando!!?

I'm assuming those brown patches are streets with home - or are those some type of waste areas.

If this is a neighborhood course, have C&C done any others?
