It is the same water hazard but its now more formalized and enlarged somewhat.  It comes into play on the South Course as well.

    You are so right that wind as a key element has been neutralized on many of these classic courses. When one is required to carry shots either off an elevated tee or to an elevated green the impact of wind is vital to the enjoyment of the game.

  I liked the use of water, particularly on #17. It formed the endpoint for a drive and you could choose how far to the left you wanted to go and it was not a significant factor on the second shot from the fairway.
