2 of those are correct. Long weekend gets a little bit more interesting.

Son-in-law, Garry Parkin and I have received an invite to play Carnegie Abbey, in Portsmouth, RI.  Can't wait to see those revetted bunkers !

Tom -
You will never believe where the weekend after that will be spent. Hit me on the IM with a guess, and i'll tell you. Its too over the top. Considering where the previous two weekends will be spent, I can hardly believe it myself.

Willie Dow- The best part about it is that you'll be in the lee of the campus where I spent 4 years!

Wow, this is turning into a pretty self-absorbed thread.

FYI I'm NOT playing this weekend and it's killing me!

I am sitting at home with one of the worst cases of poison ivy I've ever had. I am pretty certain I got it retrieving my ball from an unplayable lie in the brush.

Seems the penalty for that shot was pretty severe.

TH,

I'm jealous--I've been trying to get into one of these with my daughter for the past 2 years but we've missed it due to out of town vacations. Have fun!

It's the club championship long weekend at Scarboro (Monday is a holiday in Canada - at least in this part of Canada).  I played a warmup round today and I am playing in the First flight (Handicaps 7-12) on Saturday and Sunday.  If I am in the low 16 or within 12 shots of the lead then I make the final round to play on Monday.

It takes a lot to move me from an Eastern dead guy course, usually. ;D
Stanley Thompson is both Eastern and dead.  Donald Ross is, arguably, Scottish or Southern rather than Eastern.

I'm not playing.  I'm caddying for Laura in our club's Women's Club Champoinship.    I actually get a kick out of it and really enjoy it.  It'll be a lot of fun to give her the royal treatment.

Beats jewelry  :D

Sunday too...

The Reserve -Cupp. Its so much of a guessing game on the greens we'll invoke the temporary greens rule-two putt max.

Branton Woods, an Eric Bergstol course up in Dutchess Co., NY. Just a casual game. The course is going fully private next month, so it might be my last round there for a while. I've always enjoyed BW--it's a good course on a very nice piece of land. Looking forward to it!
I'll be playing with Tom at Branton.  :)

Sorry, Wayne, I forgot a comma. Charles River is in the East and it was done by a dead guy. Maybe some time on the range, instead of comments like that, would get you out of the first flight.

Final Round of the Missoula C.C. Mens Invitational....played a Chapman format today...very interesting....about 3 holes into it I hit a tremendous drive right down the middle...(into the sun, and a fairway covered with dew...I saw where it went, no one else did)...we go to my partners drive...I have to hit his and I have nothing, so I chip back out into the fairway...he circles the cart around a ball out in the fairway and says..."this must be your drive"....I claim I went a lot farther than that...he gets out and looks at the ball, says. "no, it's yours, and proceeds to hit it into the next fairway 100 yards left of the green....meanwhile, the two guys we are playing with come up and say,"gee, that might have been one of ours, we were coming over here to pick it up, cus it was laying two..blah..blah...blah".

Hmmmm....I look up the fairway, a good 40 yards further and there's a ball....MY DRIVE!!!

So, my partner has hit the wrong ball...

That sent my partner into a major funk for 3 or 4 holes...he blamed everyone, but himself...started yelling at everyone...about everything...and we go double bogey, double bogey, bogey....end of story.
LOCK HIM UP!!!

Probably just handicap padding...... ;D

Sorry about the unfortunate turn...however, it was nobody's fault except his own.

Friday was Westchester in the A.M. and a return visit to Yale in the late afternoon. While I was still trying to settle on my opinion of WCC as we teed it up at Yale my feeling about Yale remained that it is "awesome".

Both courses have blindness, but Yale's seems more appealing. Maybe it is the width or the angle of the landing area or possibly the knowledge that there would be a HUGE green at the end that allowed for varied attack angles. WCC felt more like target golf with fewer options for mishits.

I was somewhat put off by the watering at WCC .Maybe it is the country club membership that wants that green look in Aug. but a few greens were really hurting.

#12 was my favorite hole and from there to #17 was my favorite stretch.

I expect the manufactured look when I go to Yale , but the building up of tees and greens at WCC was jarring for me. I admit my Flynn bias as he seems to be more humble with the land, but I couldn't understand why more greens and tees weren't lower profile.

Today was back home at Rolling Green. I noticed how much I appreciate the angling of the greens with bunkers underneath. It is as pleasing as those huge greens at Yale.

Ryan..you want to talk about padding/sandbagging...the guys that won the tournament shot a 65 gross today...they are an 11, and an 8 handicap respectively.....

Yes, my partner has NO ONE but himself to blame for hitting the wrong ball...no one.

The name of those two ass holes should be forwarded on to every club in the United States and they should be banned from playing in any events.  That kind of crap really pisses me off.

SPDP-Spent some time there too!  Four years on destroyers starting in 1951.  Quite a golf course, though.  A great routing through difficult wetlands, which gave some concern with the walking of the course - which we did in less than four hours.  The bunkers, according to John Brown, were indeed revetted with sod 1&1/2 thick, and worked over each winter which gives the look of grass faces slightly affected by southern exposure - brown sod - but very sound growing soil, not the dead sod seen in other places around Newport, and elsewhere.
