Where are YOU playing this weekend? weekend #2
« on: August 04, 2006, 10:49:36 AM »
I always like these threads, as it provides a fun cross-section of vacationers, home courses, and tournament play.

As the heat has finally abated a bit in the Northeast and many club fourballs and such are happening this weekend (just before the grand aeration bomb for many courses in mid-August in our region) I'm sure most of you are making time for golf this weekend....

I'm playing Waconah CC (Stiles/Van Kleek) in W. Mass on Sat., followed hopefully in the afternoon by a trip (or two) around Ross' 9-hole Greenock CC in Lee, MA.  On Sunday a friend and I will hopefully play at either Cohasset CC, Baker Hill GC in NH, or my home course of Tedesco if our 4-ball ends in time or the others don't pan out.

So.....where are you playing this weekend?

I am playing with some guests from Sunningdale on Saturday (friends of a friend) at one of my club's courses and with my two sons on Sunday at our other course.  After a tough week of work, fun is in store.  Looks like the temps and humidity will be well under 100 for a change!

Would my local bookie have the line on this?  I LIKE your chances and believe I will make a killing... assuming you get out of your wife's way.

Thanks Tom - we play well in tournaments together for some reason.  A scratch alternate shot 76 the last two years has been a nice highlight!

And you're right, clearly there is a default captain of our team and clearly I am not that captain.

With a client this afternoon at Hoover CC (Bham AL).  George Cobb, 1964.  I haven't seen any of his work before; I know he did the ANGC Par 3 course, but understand that his rep is as a postwar "dark ages" guy.  I'm looking forward to it even though it's in the high 90s here today.

Tomorrow, if my wife lets me, I'll play with my regular group at Greystone CC.

Your wisdom is even greater than your golf skill... and that is saying something.

Good luck and have fun!  Sounds like a great weekend plus.

Branton Woods, an Eric Bergstol course up in Dutchess Co., NY. Just a casual game. The course is going fully private next month, so it might be my last round there for a while. I've always enjoyed BW--it's a good course on a very nice piece of land. Looking forward to it!

Sunday afternoon, Olympic Club - Ocean with my 19-year old son.

The last round we played, I gave way to many strokes, played well and lost all 3 ways ...

Brad,

I will be playing Sunday morning at my home course, Point Grey G&CC here in Vancouver. Classic parkland course which opened in 1922.

Then away for a week's vacation in the Okanagan Valley where we will stay and play at Predator Ridge. A great 27 holes designed by Les Furber. Hope to get my 12 year old on Predator for 9 holes as he is now showing interest in golf with the old man.

Yes but, the lesson was well-learned.

Or at least let's hope it was.

I'm playing The Olympic Club (Lake) this afternoon, and depending on my ability to hit a freakin' fairway, I might not play ever again.

All architects will be a lot more comfortable when the powers that be in golf finally solve the ball problem. If the distance to be gotten with the ball continues to increase, it will be necessary to go to 7,500 and even 8000 yard courses.

I'm sorry Wayne, but the reality and frustration oozing through that has me absolutely busting up.  We've all been there, my friend.

Ah, since my weekend is Monday-Tuesday this week, probably Royce Brook (East) on Monday and then my new home course, Lederach, on Tuesday.

If anyone from the area's available, hit me up.

Was planning to join my regular Saturday dawn (actually pre-dawn) patrol at Tilden Park in Berkeley, but we just bought a ski/wakeboard boat, so off to the mountains we go!  Decided yesterday that an obscure mountain lake boat ramp was the best spot for novice boaters (or more to the point, novice trailer-ers) to launch.  Hopefully no pictures of us will end up on YouTube or the like!
