Best Memorable Menu Item
« on: February 24, 2006, 05:34:10 AM »
Which course has the best unique and most memorable single menu item in their clubhouse or snackbar that sets it apart from other clubs?

Pine Valley has Snapper Soup.

The Golf Club has their Lemonaide.

Double Eagle has their Lemon Pie.

Cheers,

Terry

Indian Springs GC in Mechanicsburg, Ohio has these things called "Burger Dogs."  They are basically hamburgers that are formed into the shape of hotdogs and cooked.

They are totally awesome.  I make it up there about once a year to play and I always look forward to hardening my arteries on one of those puppies.

John,

The Qurarry at Giant's Ridge has about the opposite - coiled bratwurst to fit on a hamburger bun. Its a local product, and I will never forget the look on the governors face when they presented him one.  Of course, too nice to say anything to their face, but later allowed that the item had some presentation problems. When pressed, he admitted it reminded him too much of a pile of dog dirt on a bun!

BTW, they taste great, even if they don't look great. But, they are memorable!

Tough to beat the barbecue and Two-Buck-Chuck at Lynn Shack's place with a bunch of knuckle-headed golf course architecture wannabe's (with a sip of some nicer stuff courtesy of Mr. Stettner and his hideous hat).

I miss you guys, seriously.

I agree with Shivas that the water at Deepdale is amazing.

Something about the way the ice cubes are arranged.. Perfect ratio of Ice:Water too.. Excellent service.

Rob, When Woodmore opens back up you will have to taste their crab cake.  It is the best in Maryland or Virginia.

"Oh, for crying out loud...what is so doggone special about potato chips?  "

Dave,

Pennsylvania is the land of potato chips (Wise and Utz) and the best chips I've ever had are the ones at Merion.  Hand-made on the premises and perfect!  You haven't had the best potato chip unless you've had a Merion potato chip.

I do like the Herr's chips with Old Bay seasoning but not since they switched to the rippled chip.  The Harvard MBA that thought of that stupid move should be demoted to snack mix  ;)

Wayne,

It just so happens that I am an international expert on potato chips.  I have studied them for years and have developed a highly sophisticated rating and ranking system.  I have tested chips from all 50 states and over 200 countries.

I would be very much interested in evaluating the chips at Merion.  I have found that chips, especially those found at golf courses, are best evaluated when the are paired with beer and consumed after some form of physical exertion.  A round of golf just happens to be the perfect amount of activity for proper evaluation.

Please make me a tee time at Merion and I will gladly provide my technical expertise.

Did I also mention that I am an international expert on milk shakes?  And I only live just down I-71.  Travel expenses would be minimal.   ;)

If you can't handle that, then I'd suggest some BIG TIME practice at the kitchen table before you tackle mucho grande chips like these!  ;D

Hold on one second!!!  Are you saying that potato chips are best at the kitchen table vs. the couch?  What about on the couches in the locker-room at Seminole?

And don't give me some crap about today's couches being cookie-cutter designs vs. the golden-age couches.
