Just loved it. Would like to know  more about the architect and what others think of the course
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

A very good course that could be even better if properly restored. A very stout finish. I like the way Strong molded the contours of the fairways (and greens)...from what I've seen that appears to be one of his strengths.

Herbert Strong was one of the more creative architects of his era...although he is no Jim Engh.

Could you please post your wife's revised top twenty?

Cary,

Canterbury is also the name of a great little parkland gem designed by Colt in the South East of England near the greats such as Sandwich, Rye and Royal Cinque Ports.

Cary, I too really enjoyed my time at Canterbury.  I thought the start was especially good with a tough long par 4 opener, a short par 4 second, and a shortish par 3 third.  A good mix of long demanding holes, especially the finish, with some good short holes elsewhere throughout the round.  I got the impression that the course was more aesthetically pleasing before the area got built up.

Canterbury is a fine course. However, the two
Flynn courses in Cleveland (Pepper Pike Club and The Country Club-at Pepper Pike) are more interesting. These two clubs are adjacent to each other and should be played if you have the opportunity.
