Golspie is indeed a gem, although I wouldn't "rank" it as high as Jonathan. What Golspie has is incredible variety and some great holes--but also some not-so-great holes, unfortunately including 1 and 18.
That being said, it is as good as or better than all but 5 or so courses in Fife. Better than the Eden (overall) for example. But, As JB and Jonathan say, it's hard to make the 10 mile drive north when you are staying at Dornoch and have the chance to play one of the truly finest courses in the world. I've spent a huge amount of time in the area over the last 25 years, but haven't played Golspie for the last 10, not because it is not a superb experience, but because it exists in an environment where the golfer and person has an embarrasment of riches. I'll be rectifying this in August, and am very much looking forward to seeing how the course holds up these days.
