For your viewing pleasure...

What does it matter if the poor player can putt all the way from tee to green, provided that he has to zigzag so frequently that he takes six or seven putts to reach it?     --Alistair Mackenzie--

Good photos.  Arcadia Bluffs doesn't get much attention, probably because its so remote and the season is short but its a hell of a golf course.  It finished 2nd a few years ago to Pacific Dunes in the best new at Golf Digest.  Its a very hard golf course, probably not playable for anyone over a 15 handicap.

Warren Henderson (the architect) is a lurker here and I have tried to keep up with his new golf course openings but he hasn't built anything on this scale which is puzzling?

I know I wouldn't return to that area without playing it again.  It is in the tough walk category, but if they let me, I'd walk it next time.  It is a mystery why Henderson hasn't been tapped for another course, after this very fine golf course design.  All that hubbub about the freak occurance of the landslide may have damaged his reputation, which I feel is a bum rap.  It was a freak occurance, and nowhere near as forseeable as say Ocean Trails dropping into Pacific having been built on a fault.  I will continue to maintain that given a choice, I'd play AB before Whistling Straits again.
No actual golf rounds were ruined or delayed, nor golf rules broken, in the taking of any photographs that may be displayed by the above forum user.

I too enjoyed Arcadia immensly. The routing taking you too & from the lake edge was very good. Excellent, strong par 3's and the 5th biartiz green is out of this world.

As for Henderson's work (if he's a lurker, I'd love to here his take) The Shenendoah (first) course at Turning Stone Cascino east of Syracuse NY is a tremendous course. It's listed as a Rick Smith design, but I'm pretty sure that Warren Henderson did the work. In '03 Kaluhyat (RTJ) opened and in '04 the Atunyote (Fazio) came on line. While  I've not seen Fazio's yet, Jones was somewhat dissapointing and the Henderson/Smith was much prefered.

Good photos -- I'm a huge fan of Arcadia. There was a discussion some time ago on a thread between Tom Doak and Warren Henerson that was one of my all time favorites here.

I've walked it several times and don't really find it that bad. There were a few hikes but very walkable.

The green complexes are some of the most interesting I've played and while some may be over the top they never get old.

Isn't Warren Henderson now working with Gary Player? Matt Ward can probably confirm this, but didn't Warren handle most of the work at The Ace Club in Philly?

Truly a great course! I got to play it again this fall when I was visiting, a real challenge that requires one to think as well as strike the ball. I wish my game was up to the challenge that Arcadia presents. Great design, beautifully maintained.

Although Arcadia is pretty high on Golfweek's Modern list, I still think it is underrated.   I don't recall for sure, but I don't believe that it has cracked Golf Digest's top 100, which, imho, is a joke.

Personally, it makes my own top 10 of modern courses.

I really need to get back there.  I have only played there once about 2 weeks after the course opened.  From the pics it looks like the course has grown in nicely.

I concur with all previous sentiments...played it 2 years ago in October...was out there as the sun set -- a great experience at a great course..
199 played, only Augusta National left to play!
