Hamilton,
First, my last name is Fortson not Forston.
Second, people can vote for whomever they choose.
Third, I share the same faith as those you seek to defend.
Fourth, just because I share the same faith doesn't mean I think I should shove my values on sexual orientation and rights down someone else's throat (no pun intended).
Fifth, I don't recall ever bashing the President as a human being. However, I do question his judgement, policies, and agenda.
Sixth, I happen to debate about a topic if I get involved in a discussion, even heated ones. You debated about nothing on the VOTE thread. You simply wrote something to the extent of, "Fortson, it is nice to see you are still a nasty, little man.", which I IMed you and told you I was neither little or nasty. Also, I did not appreciate your blasting me when nothing I wrote about had anything to do with you, nor was anything ever directed at you personally.
Seventh, I never ranted about the President, I simply stated my opinion on the election. You don't have to like it. If everyone thought like you this country would not be great. How come I get the "unsolicited rant" label when all the Hawksish GOP supporters were spewing right-wing rhetoric left and right? Just because I chose to state something that goes against what the other posters were saying doesn't make my post any less important or unwarranted.
Eighth, I love this quote...
"I too am thankful that you are not an eliteist, of course there are a groups of people in certain parts of our country that think other parts of the country contain people that are not too smart based on how they choose to vote or how they may practice their faith. Is that eliteist?"
My answer is, elitist..... maybe. Maybe that is elitist if those people think others are not smart because they voted different. I'll agree somewhat with that part of your statement. However, can't those people you seek to defend be called elitist for voting to not let two people marry just because their sexual orientation scares them? You defend people using the term elitist and then choose to not look at those people's stances on issues themselves. That is rather ignorant. I could go in circles for days on how we are all elitist jerks and how one side is smart and the other isn't. Unfortunately, it doesn't solve anything. Neither does name calling.
I leave you with this...
How many relatives do you have in the line of fire in Iraq? How many relatives did you have in the Fallujah offensive?
I can name two in my family. I can also name family in the theatre of war serving in the Navy and Air force.
How much is your family sacrificing this Thanksgiving for our country? I hope you don't have to live with the day to day stress my family does wondering if my nephew or cousin are going to come home in a bodybag.
I truly am thankful for their sacrifice. I mean, when it comes right down to it, they are the ones fighting this questionable war for the man you obviously voted for. I will always respect their courage and their willingness to sacrifice themselves for me, you and every other American. I just believe we should only ask them to make that sacrifice when absolutely necessary, not use them as a premptive, nation-building strike force.
Happy Thanksgiving Hamilton.
