Certainly # 16 at Pasa jumps out, as does #7 at Crystal. I aslo think #1 at Crystal makes my cut, especially because it is the first hole.

#2 at PVGC
#16 at Crooked Stick
#7 at Camargo
#12 at Somerset Hills (the short three over water)

Since I last posted on this thread in 2004, I would add that there are a number of unique greens at one course, Angels Crossing.  Soap dishes, TV dinner plates, biarritz on steroids, etc,.

After some thought, I'd like to nominate #10 at Riviera for most unique green complex.  Not the most complex, but perhaps the most unique.

Wow, I've built at least one of them since this thread started!

But the bummer is that in reading through the early posts I noticed that at least two nominated greens -- the 14th at Cruden Bay and the 13th at Dooks -- have been changed in the past two years as well.

P.S.  Paul's picture is the former third green (now the first) on the Eden course at St. Andrews.  It's a doozy.

Also, I'll add that sunken green on the short par 3 on the front nine at Plainfield, about hole #6.

17 at Glen Abbey in Toronto. It's described here as a U shape, but it looks like an S from the fairway.

Nice, I guess, but just plain weird.
TOtally different from the rest of the course.

Number 9 at Thendara.

It seems that this thread is making the point that some golf course architects today are not feeling restrained or limited in the types of greens complexes which they can design.  Clearly, Doak, C & C, etc. are not hesitant to go ahead and design something unique which golfers are finding interesting and challenging.  Is it their study of the great classical designers which caused this - probably so, but it still took courage on their part and of those who engaged their services. Jack Nicklaus was never as imaginative in this area as he is now as seen at Sebonack and Dismal River.   Perhaps the recognition of Sand Hills is what made this possible.

Might have missed them, but many of Stratz' greens were ultra long or wide and noticeably unusal.

For that matter, MacKenzie had two S shaped greens, one with about a five foot tier at the UM course, and the U shaped green at Pasa. I think he did both of those greens on other courses as well, but those are the only ones I have seen personally.

I scratch my head with that course redo,  Donald Steel is a fine architect...I suspect he had a measly budget from the links trust,  although from his comments on the Eden in "Classic Links of Great Britain and Ireland"  he liked the end result.

I've searched high and low for a pic of the original 16th on the Eden, to no avail.  Would you possibly have a copy that's not too difficult to find?

Never played either, but #12 at Whistling Straits and #4 at Spyglass Hill look pretty unique.

#15 at Castle Pines Golf Club also fits the bill.
