Sean - Joe Fairey and I will be traveling together, so please book us together for a room and any extra golf. Thanks.

Note for current or potential USA players...

I don't know about other departure cities but from Charlotte, NC (CLT) connecting through PHL there are some USAir fares lower than I've seen any time recently. Going to MAN, LGW or GLA in mid-September I'm seeing something under $670 all up for a coach fare with a Saturday stay. AFAIK, that's about $150 less than usual for USAir or the other airlines.

They appeared on Tuesday and may be gone now for all I know but it was still showing up early this morning. Maybe it'll save somebody a few bucks.

[EDIT]

OK, the low fares dragged me in. I'll be playing all the Buda V rounds at Alwoodley and Moortown. I'd like a single room at the Lodge if possible. Check to Sean has been posted. My current handicap is around 22 but will no doubt be lower by the end of the summer (lower as in maybe 18, 19, 20-ish).

I'm opting out of the Ganton round and my initial plan is to spend Sunday, Monday, Tuesday over at Southport getting a dose of links golf. As infrequently as I get to cross the ocean I don't want to spend a whole trip on inland courses.

I'm also hoping to play at Seaton Carew on Saturday the 22nd if Andy can arrange additional tee time(s).

You're in for Seaton Carew on Saturday 22 Brent. Anyone else joining us? We are currently five.

Andy,
Please add me to the Saturday group. Do you have a recommendation for a nearby b&b?

Andy,

To follow up on Craig's question, an on-line search turned up http://www.altonlea.co.uk/welcome.htm which is an 11-room B&B located "On the Green" in Seaton Carew. Looks like maybe a mile or less from the clubhouse. I was going to ask if you've ever heard of it. I picked that one because it's non-smoking.

If it weren't for the smoking thing, the Marine Hotel looks very nice and it practically adjacent to the golf club. A little pricier than the Altonlea B&B.

I hope Andy doesn't mind me saying this, but the town of Seaton Carew is not the most salubrious place to spend an evening.  Do so if you must (I spent one night there a year ago, and I'm still alive) but think about finding a B&B about 30-45 minutes south and inland (North Yorkshire).  Andy can surely help you as he lives near there.  I know a couple of decent places in Great Ayton.

As I've mentioned in another thread, I'm playing pre-Buda in the Southport area. I've made tee time reservations with room for another player. I'd welcome anyone who'd care to join me for one or more rounds.

Sunday, Sept. 16 Formby Golf Club 1.30pm

Monday, Sept. 17 Royal Birkdale Golf Club 11.10am

Tuesday, Sept. 18 Formby Golf Club 9.24am

I'm also staying in the Dormy House at Formby on Sunday and Monday nights. I reserved a single room and at this point they have others available, or I could possibly change to one of the twin rooms if anyone is interested. I'll be arriving straight from the Manchester airport Sunday morning and leaving for Headingley some time Tuesday afternoon.

I wouldn't disagree with that. Great Ayton's a pleasant village about 40 mins from Seaton Carew. I can give two people a ride to the course from there.
If you do want to be closer the new Hartlepool Marina, about a mile away from the course, has one hotel, which is part of the www.premiertravelinn.com chain, big choice of restaurants, and the restored Nelson-era frigate HMS Trincomalee, the oldest warship afloat. Hartlepool itself is less attractive.
Going upmarket, country house hotels Crathorne Hall or Gisborough Hall may have good deals on the internet.

Andy,

Great Ayton looks like an ideal location. It's a much shorter drive up from Moortown on Friday evening than going all the way to Hartlepool and then it's pretty quick and easy from there to Seaton Carew on Saturday. There seem to be some reasonably priced B&B's in the area as well. Heck, even Ganton is only a little over an hour away.

Craig,

Methinks we ought to find ourselves some Great Ayton accomodation, no?

Is there interest in playing at Beau Desert on Monday, 9/17, hopefully in dry conditions? If so, I plan to stay at their Dormy House on Sunday night, play Monday, then travel to a hotel near Ganton for the game on Tuesday. Dormy House accommodations, breakfast and a round of golf is GBP75 - really a bargain.

Tony, Mark, Sean,

I am sorry to say that I now have a concert in Lisbon on Thursday 20th September which means that I won't be able to take part.  I think I sent some form of deposit ages ago.  Don't send it back to me.  Please buy a round of appropriate drinks at my expense.

Thanks Sean, just to add that I'm also up for Ganton with Sean and Philip on the Saturday..

Am I right in thinking that the majority of those paying Saturday will stay with the Leeds hotel on the Friday night?

If so I have some suggestions for restaurants on the Tuesday night and Friday for those that will be around.  Willl post more info nearer the time.

There is still time to sign up, will be a blast.

Just popping this up to let people know that there are spaces available for all or part of this extravaganza, and also to inform those coming that the Captain of England (Lloyd Cole) will be playing a gig in Leeds on Saturday the 22nd.  Having heard him in Edinburgh this winter, I would highly recommend his show, even though after the likely result of BUDA V, he will be struggling to be completely "Anti-Depressant"........

Do you mean Friday 21 or Sat 22 Rich? I watched Lloyd in London last year and it was a lot of fun, though he was grizzling about his equipment travails! Last time I saw him play must have been fully 20 years before when...well, when much was different in all respects.

Tony & Mark,

Are there two spots available in the post-Buda Saturday game? Joe Fairey and I might stay over if possible.

Hey Mike,

There are two Saturday games, one at Ganton and one at Seaton Carew.  Sean had booked the times for Ganton and Andy Levett for Seaton. Reading Sean's first post on this thread, I gather Ganton may not have room for two; however, I think Seaton will, presuming Sean is at the wedding that is keeping him from Buda in the first place!

I am on the road and don't have access to my notes, but I recommend you IM Andy if you're interested in Seaton. As for Ganton, hopefully Tony has access to the notes and can chime in; otherwise, Tony, you, or I should IM Sean for the Ganton info.

Sorry can't be more helpful right now.

Mark

Any info on venue etc?  I can't find any information on Lloyd's website.
2014 to date: not actually played anywhere yet!
Still to come: Hollins Hall; Ripon City; Shipley; Perranporth; St Enodoc

In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.
