From the NY Post some comments from Kevin Stadler to clear up his situation.
"That (bleeped) me off,"  Kevin Stadler said.  "The seventh hole was ridiculous.  I was 2 feet for par and had a six.  Then they watered the green after (one more group) went through."  Stadler was 1 over after six, 14 over on the final 12.  "It kind of knocked me off kilter.  I was a little deflated,"  said Stadler, who was about to go crosseyed.  "I parred the 8th and 9th and was going down the 9th, Stadler said.  "Then they tell us they're watering behind us.  "Then my brain fried."

It must be kept in mind that the elusive charm of the game suffers as soon as any successful method of standardization is allowed to creep in.  A golf course should never pretend to be, nor is intended to be, an infallible tribunal.

Maybe Stadler walked in his own line and put that spike mark there!

Another possibility: There weren't any gritty, malevolent little Bruins in the vicinity, were there?
