OK, you argumaniacs, I'd didn't really mean you're all suspended for a week, but get the hell out of the clubhouse and take it onto the golf course and settle it with your sticks! If the balls aren't in the air in five minutes, though, you're all suspended for a month!

JK:  many CA regulars of this site have played the course.  None have puked, most have enjoyed it... though I liked it a lot more than Gib... but in any case if this were Pete Dye or Tom Fazio or Nicklaus or someone well know, then puke would be warranted... but please, no offense to my one-time golf partner Todd, but he's not exactly a household name outside of this forum.. and even in here most won't know him... so if he has a hole named after him, well to me it's credit well-deserved.  He took what might have been a boring housing project course and made it really fun, with fantastic greens and bunkers, such that I travel 90 minutes to play it 5-6 times a year.  He deserves a hole named after him, and since he didn't do the naming, well... it's hard to call it pretentious.  Fact is it's a great golf hole also... risk-reward par 5 with a green that has to be seen to be believed....

I just think that the opinion saying that naming golf holes shouldn't happen any more is lame . . .Naming them for the sake of doing so is not what i'm after, that would be corny and actually offensive to the tradition which one would be trying to embrace.

#9 at the course I play has a family of foxes living near the edge of the hole. what would be wrong with the membership reffering to that hole as "fox" instead of 9? The hole is a beautiful uphill par 4  . . .in my opinion, "Fox" describes the hole a lot better than 9.

There is another hole on the course with a very distinguishing feature. The hole is a medium length par 5 that rises very slowly uphill until about 250 yards from the back tees. From that point on the whole plays pretty level to the green. Some of the members refer to the top of the rise as "sissy ridge" - just a way to bust chops when and if someone's drive doesn't reach the level. I'd love to refer to that hole as "Sissy Ridge" or "Ridge" insetad of "14".

If you think that these are lousy examples and I'm not a good "hole-namer" that's fine . . .my point is only that I like the idea of holes being named if done correctly.

Everybody needs to settle down. If its a GCA golf club, the holes should be named after the threads with the most hits.

Overheard in the bar in the locker room:

"I was 1 under until I doubled 'Rees Jones article in Cigar Aficionado.'"

"Did you see where they cut the pin on 'Did Tillinghast 'Sell Out'"?

or my personal favorite:

"I closed out Shivas with a triple bogey on 'I Hate Golfers'"

At the old Sheraton Savannah Inn we had one hole known as the blowjob hole.

That'd be a helluva way to thank Mr. Daley for finding the land for GCA GC, out there in Cornhusker Country.

On second thought: That should be "Italian-Irish Dick."  ;D

SPDB has nailed it!

The tie-breaker 19th could be, simply, "OT" -- until Ran wipes it out!

Why don't we just call this thing the Fuck-Up Golf Club and leave it at that?

I didn't put those asterisks in!  It's you prudish Americans!  We can have a perfectly good clothes shop called FCUK, or, rather, we did, until they start making dowdy clothes.

Any Joe could tell you that!

Tom,

Isn't there one called 'Frisch auf!' somewhere in the States - I know it only means 'Wake up!' but it sounds rude, doesn't it?  A bit like that lovely Shaepearean phrase, 'Shog off.'  Sadly that isn't rude, either, meaning simply 'Go away.'

Are you sure that "shog" didn't morph into "shag?" ;)

Does "sod off" not fit the bill?
