Beach/Golf Resorts....
« on: June 19, 2007, 09:01:56 AM »
My firm is working with a resort planner to develop a new golf course and beach resort in europe.

We are looking for examples of fine golf and/or beach resorts that have been totally created from nothing.  By that I mean that our site is totally flat with no natural features to speak of.  Everything has to be created and landscaped from scratch. Golf, hotels, village, single family units, condos, you name it!

Any ideas which courses or resorts could be considered as good examples of this?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Check out Kiawah - really was nothing there when they started - did a great job of building great golf and a great resort as well as a great place to live while still protecting the environment.

Cap Cana - Dominican Republic.  Massive development from scratch, still in early stages.  Golf course built first (Nicklaus), now infrastucture and homesites under construction.

Two that I immediately thought of...

Four Seasons Nevis is a wonderful place.  Granted, the golf course rises up the side of a dormant volcano, but the resort itself uses space well, everything is within an easy walk, and the water is central to everything.

Mauna Lani was carved out of the lava fields on the big island, but is a lot more spread out and incorporates residential communities as well.
