Trinitas GC (near Stockton, CA)

The current issue of NCGA Golf magazine has an interesting article on a new course called Trinitas GC. It is 22 miles east of Stockton, CA and seems to be very much a "do it yourself" venture. The property owner (Mike Nemee) has pretty much been his own GCA and general contractor. This fellow is living what many of us have day-dreamed about doing.

Looks interesting; of course I might be the only person on earth who has actually been to Cedar Rapids and Valley Springs in the same calendar year (on business). I'll check this out if I'm out there again and the place is open.

Jon,

I'm thinking of the religious motif - the crosses in the logo, even the name itself which of course means "trinity" in Latin. Apparently the guy is a pretty devout dude.

Well, it is a minor crusade to get to either place....note the olive branch; perhaps he's extending it in an attempt to deflect any criticism of the design :D

This all reminds one of the David Putty - "you stole my Jesus fish" episode. I will pray for a decent score if I make it out there.

I think Tim Leahy played the course and posted about it a couple of months ago. There should be another thread somewhere in the archives.

Right, David, Tim's post was in early, early June, I believe and I found that one.  I was wondering about the time since then, since Tim's post referenced additional fairway grow-in times, etc..

I haven't heard anything since I played there. I plan to go back in September or October for another look. I think it will take at least that long before it's completely playable from tee to green on all holes. The greens were still the best conditioned I have played the last two years in NorCal and hopefully the fairways will eventually be as good. To my knowledge they still have not set an opening date, although the current 19 or so members are playing the course as is.

And in a somewhat ironic twist of fate they claim this on thier website:

The Ridge at Trinitas is currently undergoing a rigorous environmental review process that is scheduled to be complete toward the end of 2008.  This review ensures that the project will meet or exceed every local, state and federal environmental standard.

I played it last year.  It's built among olive trees and winds through fairly hilly terrain.  It's very very quirky, has a few blind shots and can be somewhat demanding.   

It's far from perfect, he made some amatuer mistakes that any architect could have fixed.  With that said it's fun and different.

I played the course and it would have been a nice addition to the area golf scene. Maybe they can get together with the Institute owner and set up a legal fund for outlaw golf courses. ;)

As for the quirky design...he had money and enthusiasm, but the vision was skewed.
